Custom MRP barrels in 5.45 or 7.62x39?

Is anyone doing this/capable of doing this?

Nope… LMT at one time early in the MRP’s life was selling the barrel extensions. After folks started doing weird things with them and having problems they stopped selling them.

The only non-LMT barrels you can get to work with MRP are from Spikes and they are .22LR and 9mm. They might be able to help with alternate calibers…

It’s a bit of a shame that LMT hasn’t come forward with a larger number of caliber and barrel length options for the MRP. Given that the barrel/gas block/tube is a single system, they can easily turn the gas hole to any number of specific loads.

In particular, I would love to see the following options:

  1. 20" barrel, rifle length gas, stainless steel, 5.56mm, 1/8 twist
  2. 24" barrel, rifle length gas, stainless steel, 5.56mm, 1/8 twist
  3. 16" barrel, mid-length gas, chrome lined, 6.8 SPC II, 1/10 twist

Options for 6.5 Grendel would also be nice.

I’ve long wanted one in 6.5G. Too bad I can’t get it. It’s a little surprising considering you can get one in 6.8. Their focus seems entirely military. I think 6.5G would do well with civilians. There must be a profit to be made there.

That is the huge drawback with the MRP - too few options available. You would figure with 5.45 becoming fairly popular in the AR platform and plentiful ammo available LMT would have brought one to the market. Heck, even getting the 6.8 out took a long time and they won’t change to an improved chambering/twist rate either…

The lack of aftermarket barrels is a downer…I would love to have a the option of cold hammer forged MRP barrels.

My thinking is that if LMT doesn’t want to get into a diverse set of barrel offerings, they should open up the spec to allow aftermarket providers to jump into the game. It will promote MRP platforms and not burden them with making different chamberings/calibers if they are not into it.

Heck, even if they asked for a nominal annual license fee or a per barrel license, they would come out ahead.

The MRP platform has so much more potential that it is limited to now.
