crush washer help!

I use a crush washer to install my dntc comp. I screwed the comp until there was some resistance. but after shooting 20 rounds. I could make the crush washer spin. what gives??? do I really need to make the crush washer flat? any pics? It seems very hard to make it flat.

It’s not necessarily supposed to be flat. It’s supposed to crush enough to tighten the FH when it’s indexed correctly.

It shouldn’t be spinning.

before shooting it… it was not spinning. but after just 20 rounds. with a couple of em in F/A. it’s spinning now! what should I do???

You obviously don’t have it torqued down enough. If you can’t tighten it within spec and still have it indexed correctly, get a new washer.

Oh yeah, has your comp spun at all?

Correct torque should be around 18 ft/lbs (IIRC)

There is no torque value for a crush washer. You put in on, apply a small dab of anti-seize and then tighten until the flash hider becomes hard to turn. You then continue to tighten until the center slot of the hider is TDC with the center of the FSB. This all assumes that you are using an M16A2 type flash hider.

Since you are not it is hard to say. Based on what you stated I think that you didn’t tighten it enough. Was there no instructions with this flash hider? I would say that you are probably better off using peel/ split washers.

i am using a pws dntc comp. anyway. removed the comp. put some anti seize and did it again… I think I got it. the crush washer was “crushed” took some muscle but the comp was tdc

Step 1: Throw cruch washer in trash.
Step 2: Buy peel washer.
Step 3: Install peel wahser.
Step 4: Have a beer and admire your work.

What triburst said, DNTCs ship with peel washers. Get one and be happy.

Ditto on peel washers. Peel’em till they fit with the required torque.

the guy who shipped it to me actually lost the peel washer. I live in the Philippines by the way.

so what’s the difference with peel washer? i’ve read somewhere about using peel washer. but coudn’t find any over here.

It’s like a sealed stack of mini washers, you gently heat it and a thin wafer comes off allowing you to index the comp. You actually repeat the operation until it indexes. They can be purchased from Brownell’s but in truth I don’t know if they’re an export item or not.

ETA: This is from the Brownell’s web site, looks like they could be ordered from the Philippines.

Gun Parts:

Disregard this note if shipping in the US. This note only pertains to International orders.“If gun parts exceed $100.00 OR an Action, Receiver, Frame, Cylinder, Barrel, Flash Hider or Military Scope is ordered a State Department License is required. If your order requires an export license our Export Department will contact you.”

if it has the word gun parts… no it’ll get stuck in customs. even if it’s just a peel washer. been there done that. S&w revolver firing pin.

No one to swap with over there? Have you ever tried hand sanding a crush washer down to the ideal thickness/timing?
Im thinking the amount of torque applied to your washer is enough to time it properly but not enough to hold it down… maybe as a last resort, you could sand it down just shy of 90 degrees off proper position? That way, you get enough torque on it by the time the FH is TDC?
What does everyone else think? I tried this recently with a friend but the gun hasnt been shot enough (as far as I know) to tell whether or not it will hold up…
Anyway, you should be good to go with Iraqgunz’s suggestion, if not, try the peel washer option. Will ask a friend in your area for you. And again, maybe as a last and final option, my suggestion.

Col_crocs,

coudn’t sleep last nyt. so @ 2am in the morning. I got up. removed the FH and the crush washer. this time I tried threading the FH in without the crushwasher while applying anti seize grease. just to smoothen the threads… then removed the FH

I did it again with the crush washer this time. I applied a generous amount of anti seize grease. molybdenum disulfate? and tried it… until I found resistance. i lacked 3/4 turn to make the FH TDC. so I applied some muscle into it. not that much. just slowly. and voila! it’s TDC now! yehay.

but I would appreciate the peel washer if you have a friend here. Im in Cebu.

There’s a level 3 IPSC gun match here in Cebu on June 12, 13,14. Wana come? There will be Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun matches. PM me if you’re interested. I can arrange the club to send you an invit.

Actually it sounds like you installed it properly and I would leave it alone at this point. If it comes loose again then I would replace it.

hahahaha. yah I think I did so too.

Yup, with 3/4 of a turn to TDC, you’re definitely good to go.
Thanks! Might have another trip around that time but will let you know!

alright col crocs. I’ll Pm you my contact no.
