Why do you want the BAD lever and trigger guard and Mod 3 latch and all this other stuff? Stick to straight up STOCK mil-spec until you know how to shoot it. You might not even like that stuff, Save your money for ammo and mags. The Gunfighter charging handle will be there when your ready. Get used to your rifle first. Thats IMHO. I think starting off with all that stuff will just confuse you and get in the way.
Looks like a solid build. Id go with an ares husky 2 point or a VCAS 2point. Single points are mainly for SBR’s unless you are really tall and then a single point might not be so bad. But id go with 2 point. As far as a way to carry ammo a chest rig is good or if you have the cash get a plate carrier with some pouches.
Id say get what you want on the build the first time around as long as you are getting quality parts. Which you are so its all good. Just be prepared over time to make changes to the setup. Cause you will find out that some parts just don’t work for you the way you would like.
The one suggestion I would have as far as parts is with you being as young as you are. Hold off on an optic for a bit and build good fundamentals by shooting with irons first then move on to an optic. That way if your optic fails at some point you know how to shoot proficiently with the irons. Last thing is build it, shoot it, and have fun doing it.
Thanks for your advice but in my opinion if you know something can enhance your effectiveness whats the point in learning to do something one way then changing the way you do it later as opposed to just starting off with the equipment you want in the first place? You run the same risk of not liking the attachment whether you buy it now or later, right?
Thats good advice. I didnt mean to come across as bein a dick an sayin NO DONT GET THAT lol. What works for me is different. I like starting off with the barebones.
You’ve selected quality parts overall, but if you’re not using it for much long range shooting I’d personally drop the DD Lite rail and go for a nice inexpensive set of Magpul handguards and get a non magnifying red dot. If so, a free floated handguard and low magnification red dot like you selected will work great. I’m also not sure how necessary the Demon Tactical Quick Pin is?
If you really want to be proficient with an AR, learning to drive them standard before driving a ‘sport’ version is the way to go.
You don’t learn to drive in a Porsche. No one denies a Porsche is better … but it isn’t where you start.
Being able to run an AR in its basic for makes you a better shooter with a custom because you don’t rely on enhancements to compensate for inability.
For me the single biggest lesson was in terms of a FSP. I learned on an A2. I thought going to folding sights and RDS was going to be a huge step up.
As it happened I discovered that I shot ‘better’ with the A2 FSB and a fixed DD rear and RDS than with pop-ups. (‘better’ in this case meaning ‘more comfortably’)
Your build looks like it might be more precision oriented considering the optic so that might not immediately apply.
But you might find the CTR too light to offset the front … you might not. The DD rail might just be too much rail … a Troy Extreme might serve you better.
Start small and build … if I built a new rifle today it would look anything like what I wanted 5000 rounds ago.
Thanks for the advice. I’m not trying to be sarcastic, I’m actually asking a question, what is the point in a 1.25 MOA firearm with a 6 MOA red dot? Why not get an AK?
Not at all man. Okay so IMHO, I prefer starting off with exactly what I NEED. I like to be familiar with my system, I want to KNOW it like its my own arm, if you know it like that then everything comes natural. After that, after youre used to the iron sights and the Mil-spec bolt release and you dont have all this clutter, youre gonna have no problem operating that system, and you will appreciate it more.
Build looks fine by me. Personally, I went with a Mod 4 CH, but that’s just my preference. If you do end up getting load-bearing equipment, I’ve found that larger CH latches can catch on gear when slung. Not good. Even my Mod 4 catches sometimes.
As far as support equipment is concerned, that’s not really what this particular board’s purpose is. I just don’t want to derail a good Custom Build thread with LBE talk. Run on over to the Tactical Gear board and ask about the differences between and purposes of belt sleeves, chest rigs and plate carriers.
And I’ve got to briefly advocate a singlepoint. Most people here will tell you to go with a 2 point. I will tell you to pick up a hybrid/convertible 1-to-2 point so you can experiment with each and find what works best for you. Personally I despise 2 points. But that’s just me.
Like everyone has said, great part’s but stuff you don’t need “yet”. Don’t know if you can drive yet but it’s “somewhat” the same concept… If you learn to drive a standard transmission first (manual) you will pretty much be able to drive any vehicle. Learn to “manually” operate a standard ar and you will be GTG. Also what is this build for?.. home defense(if your dad allows it) ?.. plinking?.. pure bench shooting?.. hunting?.. little bit of everything?
I have sights I don’t use for the simple reason that the dot is too big.
Now, I am going to have to take you to task for assuming that an AK is inaccurate… I have some trigger time on good Russian and Bulgarian AKs…They are just about as accurate as any of my ARs…
