Critique my build( input needed)

Lower;
YHM stripped
DD LPK
Spikes Tactical milspec rec. ext, spring & st-2 buffer
Magpul CTR & MIAD

Upper;
Started life as a GG&G Dominator that I got a sweet deal on. I just wanted it for the parts!
Barrel is PSA hf 14.7 midlength lighter profile
BCG is LMT AR15
CH is stock, will upgrade to bcm gunfighter
GG&G sights. Front will also be drilled & double pinned

Thoughts;
Was going to just go with moe hg for now & later upgrade to a Troy MRF.
Surefire or Vortex pinned FH ? Which one is the better of the 2? Not going to use a can.
Am I good to go?

At the very least, it’s a good starting point. Especially, during these crazy times…

Build upon it in the future. First thing I’d change is the PSA barrel. I’d get something of a little better quality. Not sure on the flash suppressors, as I have zero experience with either.

Why the PSA barrel? It’s hammer forged & made by FN.Trust me I wanted a Ranier or a DD but none to be found.

Brakes pinned are shitty. Use an A2.

Not to thread hijack, but Littlelebowski could you educate me on the issue of pinning a brake.

Not doubting you, just educating myself.

Thanks.

An A2 pinned is waaay cheaper and shorter and keeps you to the minimum legal length. I would think that was the goal of the bbl length chosen.

Can you explain that please?

It means you are permanently wedded to that obnoxious brake. Yeah, there are some that aren’t so obnoxious and won’t piss off (as much) your fellow students when training but you don’t need that brake unless you have a specific suppressor in mind for the gun. I’ve got 2 Surefire brakes and 1 is being given to a friend and the other is just sitting there, not on a rifle.

I see no need for a brake on a 5.56 gun unless as a suppressor mount. I’d love to try out the BCM hybrid but doubt I will for a while in this insane market and still, I’d benefit more from buying ammo and training versus buying a brake.

Littlelebowski, thanks for the reply. Makes perfect sense. I have never used a brake, but have shot next to them in class, not fun.

Your charging handle is fine. It just sits there while you shoot your gun.

Not to derail the thread but I am in the same boat as CCM. Littlelebowski, I’m glad you brought that up. I had not really thought about actually being stuck with the muzzle device. For those that have been around them alot, how is the BattleComp for fellow shooters on the line? I would like to have a BC on my 14.7 build but I don’t want to always be that guy one the line. Thanks

CCM, I just ordered the same barrel from PSA. I have never heard of any problems with their barrels and everything else I have seen from them has been high quality.

As for the Surefire or Vortex FH, I suggest the Vortex. I have seen them as very effective on all calibers from 5.56 to .50. I currently have a Surefire FH556-212B on my Noveske SPR. I haven’t been able to shoot it in low light yet but so far so good. Im sure there are people here who can chime in with more experience

Brakes like the BattleComp and the Griffin Armament M4SD are more “side shooter friendly”. In states where a flash hider is a no-no but a compensator is, makes pinning such a device a must.

thanx

Thank you. I have done some searching and noted the obvious effectiveness of the BC but couldn’t find a lot of comments on the noise/blast increase.

My main concerns were about the fh’s. Is the Surefire worth the extra coin over the vortex? And, the GG&G front sight & gas block combo,'besides being pricey how they hold up.With things being the way they are this is & is gonna be my only AR unless things change .

Unless you plan on purchasing a Surefire suppressor I would suggest the SEI Vortex. They are a great company to work with and the vortex is an effective flash hider. Also half the price. That’s not to say the SF isn’t effective.

The Vortex rocks. But with this bbl you don’t need the extra length and an A2 is like $8 vs $50 for the Vortex.
