Crimson Trace grips AND ambi-safeties!

Thankfully, Kimber makes a way to git ‘r’ done!

Granted, it ain’t cheap. I got this pistol NiB as part of a trade deal back in January, and ALMOST sold it. But after deciding to KEEP the little UC II, I got it back from my buddy Kevin Johnson, at Johnson Tactical, LLC here in Pittsburgh today.

A little closer look.

I got hooked on ambi-safeties when my first pistol was a S&W 1006, some 20 years ago. I get 'em installed on ALL my 1911’s, but the Crimson Trace grips present quite a challenge!

Thankfully, Kimber OFFERS the ambi-safety on a couple of their Covert series Crimson Trace-equipped pistols - the UC II isn’t one of them, though. A little surfing of Gunbroker located both a STANDARD Kimber ambi-safety setup, and then the custom, short, wide r/h paddle. Makes for a $75 safety (ouch…) when all is said & done, but I think the result is worth it!

Looks good but as a south paw how functional is it. I had a kimber cdpII (Sold it) with ctc on it. I took it into my smith and he put a curve in my ambi safety to fit the grips it was hardly noticeable and very functional and about 40$. I didnt know kimber had offered diff safety. The major problem was my support hand blocked the laser so it was pointless for me. Looks good though

Wilson sells them also:

Personally, while not cheap, I would modify one of their “Bullet Proof” versions:

I think you’d like it. It’s shorter, obviously, but also wider. My thumb seems to catch it fine so far.
