Couple questions about 1:8 twist barrels

As the title indicates, I’m in a curious mood again. :o

First question, who all makes 1:8 twist barrels? I know Lilja, Sabre Defense, and Shillen do, but I don’t know of anyone else. (Not well educated on the different barrel makers out there.)

Second question, does anyone make 1:8 twist barrels with polygonal rifling? This one, specifically, I’m thinking in terms of a 16-18" SPR barrel. Because I have a specific length in mind, I’m not worried about longer and/or thicker barrels because they can be cut and reprofiled as needed.

I have one of these but have not used it yet so cannot say anything about it.

LaRue uppers have 1/8

the main advantage of 1 in 8 over 1 in 7 is reduced chamber pressures. lothar walther do 1 in 8 and they do polygonal rifling also.

As far as I knew, LaRue uppers used Shilen barrels, so I’m not surprised that they come in 1:8 twist. Regardless, thanks for the input so far guys, keep it coming!

Miale, I see where Lothar Walther offers 1:8 twist barrels, but where did you find that they also offered polygonal rifling? I don’t see it anywhere on their website, so I’m wondering if it’s something better gleaned from a phone call than an internet scavenger hunt.

Noveske sometimes has some 1/8 twist barrels available. Try giving them a call to see what they have available.

I believe LaRue uses Lothar Walther barrels for their uppers.

it maybe a lothar walther.

LW-50 barrels.

I put a 1:8 Douglas Airguaged on my DCM rifle. I had a local smith/competitor do it so I don’t know where he obtained it from but that rifle shot very well.

not sure if it’s a retail thing or not but i know they offer it as an option to manufacturers - phone call would be the best option

Ah, looks like you guys are correct on LaRue using Lothar Walther barrels. My mistake. :o

Thanks for the input so far. Options are good, and it looks like there are a few of 'em out there. Also good to hear that Noveske sometimes has 1:8 twist barrels; looks like when I can swing it I’ll be giving a couple folks phone calls to see what’s available and what it would cost to make it available.

JP uses 1:8

I have several 1:8" Krieger barrels for my competition rifles. I believe the only advertise 1:7.7", but 1:8" is available if you call them. At least, that was true a year ago when I ordered my last batch.

Good to know DRich, thanks.

PT, do you know who makes JP’s barrels, or if they make their own? Their website reads like they have someone else make it (not a bad thing, just trying to keep my info straight), and they’ve no mention of what kind of rifling to expect (which probably means traditional rifling). No worries if not, email and phone calls are brief and fairly painless operations.
