EDIT: OK, so I’m aware I need to have it sent off to ADCO for drilling/pinning.
My question I have is their site states the following:
Install Your FSB we pin your FSB in place $90.00
You supply the FSB and we pin it in place with 2 barrel pins. We do NOT install FSBs on any surface coated/hardened barrel.
I haven’t done anything with the barrel, but I’m sure it has some sort of coating on it. How do I know??
ORIGINAL QUESTION:
I’m trying to surprise the GF with a Xmas gift and this is my first attempt at a build.
I’ve ordered the parts from Surplus Ammo and Arms, PSA, and Brownells.
I’m working on the upper/barrel assembly currently and haven’t had any issues up to this point.
However, I’m stuck on mounting the A2 front sight/gas block.
I’m confused how the darn thing actually mounts to the barrel.
My guess is I’ve got the wrong part, but I thought I’d run it past the folks here first.
That FSP has to be jigged and pinned onto the barrel. You’ll need to send it to ADCO. Also, if you plan on using regular handguards, you’ll need an end cap and delta ring assembly.
I’ll google it, but who/what is ADCO? ETA: Nevermind. Google is my friend.
I’m using Magpul MOE Handguards and because the upper didn’t come with an end cap and delta ring assembly, I had to order them halfway into my build (after I realized I didn’t have everything I needed).
Yeh, make sure you send the delta ring assy and end cap off to ADCO so they can slip them on before pinning the FSB. It will save you the trouble of having to unpin it then re-pin it.
Pin gas block drill and pin low-pro gas blocks in place $55.00
The service/fee is for a single pin. Some of the larger bore calibers(.458 and such) do not allow enough room to safely pin gas blocks. We do NOT offer this service for surface hardened/coated gas blocks.
It’s almost cheaper to get a lopro gas block with a picatinny rail and a front BUIS and mount it myself. Then I wouldn’t need to have it pinned, correct?
I would ALWAYS pin a gas block. Set screws aren’t nearly as secure. You could have a gas block pinned and grab a rail like the rainier evo… I run them on beaters. It clamps directly to the barrel nut. Either way.
Not sure if they do FSBs but its worth giving them a call. They are more affordable than ADCO it seems. They did the pinning/install on my low pro GB and it hasn’t failed me yet.

It does seem they’re getting harder to find. I talked with a “gunsmith” last week (not the one I was planning on having do the work). He told me a lot of inaccuracies that even I knew weren’t right. When said he shot several “clips” through his G18 earlier that day I completely wrote him off. I overheard him telling somebody to not shoot Hornady’s because they’d blow his cylinder up. People actually trust their weapons with this guy?!
