I have a virgin barrel that I need to have a front sight drilled and pinned to. That’s all I need done. I already have the parts including the taper pins. What’s the going rate for a competent AR15 gunsmith to do this sort of work?
Around $90 for shipping both ways. My guy does it for 75 bucks plus tax. Look up D.wilson MFG.
$110-$140

A guy local to me did it for $90 so somewhere in that range I’d say is average for good work
OK. My local guy who has a good reputation said $100. That seemed high to me, but apparently it’s not. I don’t know how to drill for taper pins nor do I have the specialized bits assuming they’re required. Thanks for the quick responses.
I believe the holes are drilled, and then reamed with a 2/0 taper reamer. There’s a thread about it here somewhere.
This.
Contact John Thomas at Retro Arms Works.
I second this suggestion. John has been known to get jobs done and back out in the mail on the same day that he received them. His work is museum quality.
Only 2 places I’d consider to do this or anything else that I can’t do, and that’s ADCO and Retro Arms Works.
I dropped it off earlier today. The guy that’s going to do the work has a good reputation. We’ll see. I’ll let you know.
