Correct mount for 1x4 scope on vltor casv rail system

Anybody here running a 1x4 on the vltor rail system? What’s the lowest mount I can use?

I don’t think you’ll have much of a problem with any mount. You probably don’t need a high mount, since the VLTOR casv already raises the mounting surface higher. I’d just get a mount of your choice at the standard height.

I run the CASV-M handguard with a LaRue LT104 QD mount on my 1-4X without issues.

Thanks guys. Checked out the larue, sits pretty low, that should do it.

If you want to save money, you could use any low mount rings that fit the scope due to the one piece rail design you are using.

I would either go with rings or one of the other Larue mounts which places the optic lower than their standard SPR mount.

The CASV looks like it adds quite a bit of height to the rail. As the rear BUIS isn’t mounted to it, there aren’t any clearance issues with running a low(er) scope mount.

The CASV adds 0.47" to the height of the rail.

The rail of an upper is 1.215" above bore. So your rail is 1.685" above the bore. The LT104’s centerline is 1.5" above the rail. This places your optics centerline 3.185" above your bore. IMO, this is kind of high for a rifle scope. With red dots you can get away with it, but with a LT104 and a standard upper I felt like my cheek was not low enough.

I see. That’s what I was afraid of. I was hoping stickman would chime in because I saw a pic he posted a while back on ar15.com of a trijicon accupoint in some quick detach low rings on the casv. I want to get something quality.

Most of the scopes I’ve been looking at are right at 1.7" for the occular/eyepeice end.

A KAC 200-600m micro is 0.469" above the receiver’s rail, from the highest point. The 300m micro is 0.437", but that is from the top of the drum due to the windage knob. The center of it might actually be lower. I don’t know what BUIS you are running, but you should be able to google the measurements. A Magpul GEN II is about 0.51", Troy ones are 0.460".

The lowest rings Larue makes have a centerline 0.875" above the rail. So with the CASV you are at 1.345" Subtract half of the scope’s eyepeice (assuming 1.7" so 0.85") and you have 0.495" to clear a BUIS. Which may be enough depending on what you are running. This will give you a height over bore of 2.56" which IMO is ideal.
