Correct A4 type mag pouch?

I’ve been searching this and perhaps I’m not asking the question correctly…What is the correct magazine pouch to mount on your A2/A4 buttstock? I have found several available but which one is in use currently (USGI) ? or is it simply a matter of preference…such a minor thing can become quite an issue…like a 7075 forged extruded receiver extension…

I dont think it’s an issued item.
btw, SpecOpsBrand stock poches are sold in the PX here

Thanks for the reply…I appreciate that and in fact have been looking at the Spec Ops brand…I’m certain I’ve seen 'em on issue A4’s though wasn’t sure either if they are issued or PC…Hill

It’s not an issue item, even though some units may provide them. Generally not found on anyone’s weapon if they actually go outside the wire with any type of regularity… at least in the Army…

For the two times that I’ve been deployed most troops that have a mag pouch on is strictly for carrying a mag on their weapon when they’re on base. The problem you can run into is the charging handle getting in the way. I’ve seen ones bought and others that use issued MOLLE pouch zip tied onto their stock.
But as was stated, there isn’t (to my knowledge) an issued pouch. It comes down to individual units having money to spend on their troops and they may get them. Most of the time though its troops buying their own gear for FOBing.
My 1st deployment I had an M4 and M9 issued and I carried my M9 everywhere on camp. I had a shoulder rig with two mags on it or if I used my hip holster I stuffed a mag in my pocket. My last deployment I was in Kuwait making runs into Iraq. When I was in Kuwait my M4 was locked up. When I was on mission I just carried a mag in my pocket.
Try going to a gun store and ask them to try some pouches out. They should be willing to let you try out a few. If not do your research to get the best option. YMMV

Thanks again…that’s what I needed to know…I keep a BCM A4 type rifle leaning in the corner for what may come and have a spare mag on my dresser…seemed like a good idea to find some way to keep together…

I’m not a fan of installing excess “stuff” on the weapon. It not only can interfere with the charging handle, but it also degrades the handling capabilities. An option you should consider is the Eagle Patrol Bandoleer, stored with your weapon. It can be grabbed quickly and there’ll be up to four mags available for the AR15. Not knocking on your choices or anything, just suggesting further exploration. Good luck, in whatever you decide.

That’s why I’m here…I don’t take offense at helpful suggestions…that’s what I need is a way to keep this all together…I don’t really want a full pouch but a spare mag with the one in it should handle that situation I hope to never encounter…

It shouldn’t cause a problem with the charging handle on an M16A2/A4. If you try to run one on an M4, the instructions for it tell you “keep stock fully extended to prevent interference with charging handle.” I wasn’t a fulltime Fobbit, but I had one on my M4, kept the stock extended and never had a complaint about it. It even went in and out of the rack with it, when it had to.

A few of my guys had it on their rifles. The main reason they had it was to stow away their magazine when they went on FOBs and had to clear their weapons when coming in the wire. The brands I remember them using was SpecOps and Blackhawk.

Mine was a specops and had no issues with the charging handle.

Spec Ops work fine, they aren’t in the actual supply system but if you’re in a line unit usually the Company Supply can put in request to the Battalion S-4 and they can make purchases if needed in bulk. Which if you’re running around on the FOB then the unit should provide them unless it is a extremely micro managed unit. Can’t count how many I have purchase on the Unit Credit Card.

I used a specops pouch for awhile to keep my main magazine in while fobside.

i used one in 04, i think it was made by eagle. it worked fine for its intended purpose, but i kind of abandoned the use of it early in the tour. i sort of looked at it as my “e&e holy crap! last mag!” but as some of the other guys metioned, its mostly just weighing down your rifle more. ( kind of like how a beta mag is cool until you hump it around for one patrol) I feel that its not really worth the money or thought, if you need a spar mag on the weapon i think redi-mags are the way to go.

Again thanks for all the helpful comments…if I were to go afield, I’d lose the BS pouch for a belt pouch…the rifle really is a house gun as it were for if things were to get really stupid…I don’t expect it…but I plan for it…Does that make me a paranoid survalist?..nah…:sarcastic:
