Cool open carry article.

I live in PA and there is a very tiny contingent of “activists” who OC and go have dinner and stuff. The raised a small ruckus in Dickson City last month.

I don’t have a problem with the occasional OC for convenience sake but I am not a big fan of carrying a firearm for the sake of political activism. The vast majority of these people who advocate it are untrained.

“He and his wife, Clachelle, drop off their 5-year-old at elementary school with pistols dangling from their hip holsters, and they have never received a complaint or a wary look.”

I think (could be wrong) that is a federal violation…

Some good open carry stuff going on over in Georgia.

I’ll keep mine tucked away and out of sight & reach of the bad guys. It gets hot here too but you learn to dress around the gun and still blend in for the season.

.

Comforting, not necessarily comfortable.

The cops threaten to charge you with inciting a panic. Thats what happened to me back before Ohio passed CCW.I use to work in the hood doing apartment maintence,The natives were having a large scale roit, the cops showed up and gave me a bunch of shit because I had a glock in a holster on my side.Open carry was legal supposedly.I asked the cop if he would work in that hell hole unarmed…He wasen’t real receptive to logic in anyway…I stashed it in my tool bag and went on my way.

Funny how some cops think they should be only one’s allowed to be armed
the state highway patrol fought the Ohio’s CCW law to the hilt…

Instead of my own witty comments, I will steal one from the same debate that went ten+ pages on TOS:

"Open carry does make a statement.

That statement is one of education. Yes you will have to deal with the dicks and assholes of the world. But freedom is not free. You have to fight for it every single day. Doesn’t matter if it’s on the streets of Baghdad or the streets of Atlanta. Enemies of freedom want you to hide and bow to their silly demands.

By open carrying you educated the public DAILY that guns are not bad, that guns do belong in the hands of civilians, and that it’s LEGAL for non cops to carry.

Standing up for a right will never be easy. Just ask the gay and lesbians of the past 20 years.

Citizens stand up and declare “I have this right!” subjects slink in the corners and hide hoping not to be noticed.

For every liberal pansy I annoy I educated and inspire 2 Citizens.

I’m willing to take the flack to do that. The question is Why aren’t you?"

Pretty much sums up my position.

Thats a neat perspective, and fundamentaly I agree also, but I will still keep a concealed weapon, even should I ever have the opportunity to Open Carry. Why? because the best weapon is suprise.

That’s cool if that’s how you roll.

I’m not interested in advertising that I’m armed. In fact, I’m not interested in drawing any form of attention to myself.

I have a great deal of respect for those that open carry but I rarely if ever do it. I might open carry to and from the range but I’ll only stop for gas or hit 7-11 so I’m not out and about while OCing.

To be honest I’m always so pressed for time no matter where I’m going that I wouldn’t have the time to deal with some clown or the Police let alone try and educate someone.

Although I have to admit it OCing would solve all my concealed carry woes

I’m going to try and attend one of the OC dinners they have here in Hampton Roads if I can ever find the time.

Why aren’t I ?
Mainly because I don’t have a spare 3 or 4 grand to defend myself in some liberal ass court system on a inciteing a panic charge.I’ve got better things to
spend my money on than making some gay lawyers BMW payment

That’s my sentiment on the subject too. Most (not all) people I see open carrying in my neck of the woods are piss poor examples of gun owners anyway. They probably do more to create a negative image of gun owners than anything else.

My only concern with OC is that you make yourself a target…I also agree that most are probably not competent enough.

Yes it’s a weapon, but that just means they know you’re armed and will bushwhack/shoot you in the back of the head first.

I agree it should legal, I just don’t think it’s really streetsmart.

Time to get paid, baby!

I knew it would come to this - these people aren’t content to be attention whores, they want money now too.

While I support the concept of open carry, I do not carry openly. As others have said, I would rather it not be known on cursory glance as to what I have, where I have it, hand dominance, favorable opproach angles, and planned gun-snatch opportunity.

My idea of “open carry” (most definately NOT the legal interpretation of it) is a belt mounted holster with a covering garment. I very rarely carry in this method, and much prefer an IWB for security and concealability.

But that’s just me.
