A few people have asked me to make Y-12 holsters for railed 1911’s. I don’t own a railed 1911, so I borrowed one from a friend, for a couple of weeks, to knock out a few holsters (his reward for giving up his nice pistol is that I will make him a holster). It’s a mildly modified Springfield Armory Marine Corps Operator. It has a neat front strap texture and slide top matting treatment, so I thought I’d share a couple of mediocre photos of the gun that has me itching to get an MC Op of my own.
It is nice, isn’t it? I think that Springfield 1911’s are a little underrated, and that, among production pistols, the MC Op is a sleeper. Regarding the use of this pistol to make a holster for a full rail pistol, I’m just not sure that’d go well. I’d like to accommodate you, but I don’t want to wing it. Maybe someone will emerge with the temporary loan of a full rail pistol.
