Cool Amercian movies you would like to see made

Chosin Reservoir.

Yes, there is a book called The Last Stand of Fox Company about a company of Marines that held a strategic pass open in the Chosin Reservoir against overwhelming odds. It would make a fantastic movie if done right.

You want to make a movie?
My Uncle was a WWII Veteran with three combat jumps, he came home and married his HS sweetheart filled a truck with everything they owned and drove to Alaska.
They had 14 kids ran a hunting and fishing lodge until 1980.
My Aunt killed a Grizzly chasing her daughter across the back yard by shooting out the kitchen window.

Not an American movie, but I would love to see a movie of the hunt for the Bismarck.

I enjoyed the hell out of Jericho. I really wanted to see how it would all come out… Stupid TV execs.

Just like when they cancelled Firefly…

I believe that Jericho’s plots for further seasons were made into comics.

I’d like to see a movie where all Marvel superheroes are stranded on an island and a volcano on the island annihilates all of them.

I’d like to see a totally researched, realistic movie about an all-out nuclear war from early breakdowns in negotiations to the aftermath of a total nuclear exchange. I suspect this would have to be a miniseries rather than a movie, but to my mind no one has ever done anything with nuclear holocaust except touch on aspects of it.

I’d like to see a nearly shot-for-shot remake of the original King Kong. For me, none of the other remakes quite captured the “safari” feel of the first movie. The 1976 version might as well have been called “King Kong Meets the Hippies.” The version with Jack Black was visually stunning, but some of the dinosaur sequences (like the Tyrannosaur hanging from vines) were just silly.

 I’m with ya, I would pay to see that on the big screen.

I’m still waiting for the third of the Tom Hanks/ Steven Spielberg WWII mini-series to come out. According to HBO it is supposed to be about the US 8th Air Force in the Skies over Europe. I’m reading the primary source material, Masters Of The Air, right now and it is a fantastic read.

Justified? How can you say that about slaughtering poor indigenous space natives, ya damn colonizer? I’m sure you enjoyed playing the white male hero gunning down hordes of small, deformed aliens as they scream and run in fear, didn’t you?!? And we all know that an artificial entity would have no gender, but in typical patriarchal fashion Cortana is designed as nothing but eye candy for the male gaze. Enjoy your power fantasy you sick cis pig!

:dirol:

In all seriousness, I’ve actually always felt Halo would have been better as a movie than a game. Always found the games underwhelming. I think done right it could have been a serious contender to Star Wars…

They’ll find a way to f*** it up…

Avatar was dumb too. :stuck_out_tongue:
But seriously, Infinity War was not bad… and I am hardly an Avengers/superhero fanboi nor did I think a mashup like that would work…but somehow it did…

Indeed. I’ve got all sorts of books I would kill to get a movie about…then I think about what happened to Start Wars, and literally every single re-make that’s come out recently and I’m just like “nope”.

You want Sith? Here’s a better Star Wars movie in 8 minutes than anything that’s come out since the rise of the Disney Empire… Ah, what could have been…

TBF, every movie is CG’ed to death these days…

I too would like to hear about some “other” wars and battles. I can’t be the only one who’s goddamn tired of hearing about WW2. But I guess it’s easy low-hanging fodder for Hollywood, so you get ten million movies. Or at the very least if I have to sit through another WW2 movie, at least tell a story about something less heavily publicized…
I don’t know- I have a LOT of gripes with war movies, especially these days, but I’m not gonna derail the thread further.
But WW1 really does not get enough coverage, so I’d definitely be down for that… IF they could make a decent one… if.

Yep. Not possible- Disney has money to make. But yeah.
Barring a massive improvement on/reversal of material they’re putting out, not only something THAT technically and in-universe good, but also something that restores a hell of a lot of the good will they have lost with the fanbase… I don’t see it doing anything but continuing a long slow bleed out…

The OG National Geographic documentary from back in the 90’s sometime is actually pretty good. I think it’s called “Sink the Bismarck”.

As far as movies I’d like to see made…

I’d like to see a legit Clone Wars Series made. Forget all the “kid friendly” Star Wars, I mean Game of Thrones shit, and Clone Troopers being the highly trained operator gunslingers they’ve been alluded to being slaying bodies for the Republic. Running around out there on the fringes of the empire slugging it out with an ever-growing Separatist military, being thrown into situations and battles where they’re treated like cannon fodder or downright wasted for no gain because the Jedi are hardly skilled military generals and the Senate is full of dithering idiots who would rather negotiate some new trade treaties with the Federation than win the war. And still the Clones go out and kick ass, because that’s what they’re literally bred to do. And of course this starts to culminate in schisms starting to develop, where in a sort of Roman-esque fashion you have elements of the Army of the Republic becoming loyal not to solely “the Republic” but to specific senators or organizations that they feel have their best interests at heart. As time goes on, more and more of these supposedly caring and benevolent sponsors become exposed as the frauds they are, simply using the army to enforce their will or shape galactic events and politics to favor their faction. All except for one…a certain Senator turned Chancellor who not only seems to genuinely care about how the Republic army is used, but also seems to have a viable plan for winning the war. And as the show goes on we start to understand why the vast majority of the clone army went along so willingly when order 66 came down…
Seriously, check this guys pictured out and tell me you can’t see it being a totally kick-ass show…

That and as far as war movies, I know what I just said about WW2 movies, BUT…if anyone watched Dunkirk, I’d love to see a “Battle of Britain” movie done in the same style as the fighter pilot sequences in that movie. No manufactured drama, no epic music score in the background to tell me how I should feel about a a scene, just as close as to the utter realism as you can get of being one of the men flying those planes… from both sides… with, of course, enough background events to help viewers understand the overall events and military objectives of both sides- the “why” it all went the way it did, what each side felt/experienced during it, and the long term effects it had- not just another “the good guys win cuz they’re the good guys. Huzzah!”
Yeah that would be a real trick to get done properly (especially given today’s politics), but it would be one of the most epic movies ever if it was done right…
Or change the subject matter to the Flying Tigers, since they don’t get near enough press. Either way…

I also quite like Ramair’s idea back on page one- And I’m neither a car guy or a movie-documentary enthusiast… but I can actually see that being a movie, and I’d totally watch it…

I could go on with a loooong list of movie ideas, but since there’s no directors here taking notes…

I have news:

It’s not the news you were looking for, but the Man with No Name in space isn’t a bad place to start.

I wish someone would do big budget films about the Jedburghs and one about the Battle of Takur Ghar.

And The Devil’s Brigade needs a serious re-make as does The Searchers with a very strong R rating.

I would like to see a movie based on the life of CWO Michael J. Novosel based on his autobiography, “Dustoff - The Memoir of an Army Aviator”. If you haven’t, you really ought to read the book. The man led a fascinating and honorable life, earning the MOH along the way.

Great book! I agree, he was a great man and a GREAT AMERICAN, very deserving of a movie about his life. He flew combat with his son in VN and they actually rescued each other.

ETA: His son, Michael J. Novosel, Jr., was no slouch himself, he did great things also:

Oh fudge, a 2-prong flash hider-bayonet. Shhh, don’t tell the novelty AR market…

Yeah, I’ve heard of that upcoming show, however I hold very little hope or anticipation for it…
I have a sneaking suspicion this is a re-direction of the Boba Fett show/movie some were looking for/expecting, however in typical “Disney knows best” fashion they’ve forgone using that character so they don’t have to follow canon with it and can “go their own way” with the story/character[s] as they please… which has worked out SO well for them so far…
I suspect this will be a high-anticipations show that will get a lot of raving when it opens, as the fanbase is desperate for literally anything to wipe the bad taste of TLJ away, however, it will not be that great of a show, and after the initial hype dies down will likely peter out in both quality and interest… sort of like The Walking Dead did, but faster…
Of course I could be completely wrong… it could totally slay (I really hope it does) but…I have a bad feeling about anything Star Wars these days…

The blaster is an homage to the Holiday Special.

Perhaps a not-so-subtle hint that even in the good old days, there were some serious missteps with Star Wars.

Yeah, like making Darth Vader Luke’s father. I STILL know people who swore off Star Wars over that one.

When Boba Fett got dumped into the Sarlacc I almost walked out of Return of the Jedi. I thought he’d at least come to a more spectacular end, or survive to star in his own series of movies.

I’d like to see Erwin Rommel’s Infantrie greift an made into a Band of Brothers-style mini-series.

I use to attend Star Wars conventions and have met with and have several photos of myself with Jeremy Bulloch. Of the many carded Boba Fett action figures I have signed by him this is the cover art to one of my favorite custom figures.

There are a lot of pissed fans out there. I wished they kept the EU back story of him being a journeyman protector from Concord Dawn.
