I got this video in an email touting new technology that tracks the trajectory of opposing motor rounds and can pin point the location allowing for a fast counter attack.
Oh yah, we have been able to tract incoming and return fire for quite some time. We always called it counter battery. I have seen that same vid in super slow-mo and you do see the incoming. I have seen two sizes of counter battery radar. One smaller and can be pulled behind a HMMWV and the other is pretty big and I saw it being pulled by a LVS.
Firefinder radars have been around for a long time, damn near 20+ years, for counter battery fire.
Don’t know about the video, it’s been around on the net for a few years. I thought it was a round malfunction, maybe even rigged munitions by some of our guys tampering with the BGs ammo stash, who really knows…but it always cracks me up when I see it.
I was thinking the same thing I would also think it would have been set to air burst not contact but if you watch it few times it looks the detonation pattern is angled downward as if it was an incoming round.
If it was counter battery fire round they pretty darn near put the round down the tube or hit him it the head with it:D
