Converted my first Saiga-12

I finally completed my first Saiga 12 build. I checked the things that needed to be checked. I also polished the bolt to enhance reliability.

I had one failure to feed and one failure to extract in the first 5 rounds (using Winchester Universal). After 50 rounds of NobelSport LE 2 3/4 12 pellet 00 Buckshot my Saiga 12 fired the Winchester Universal without any malfunctions. I fired the following:

50 rounds - Centurion LE 2 3/4 Multi-Defense Buck
50 rounds - Federal LE Tactical Flitecontrol 8 Pell. OO Buck (1145 fps)
50 rounds - Federal LE Tactical Full Power 9 pell. OO Buck (1325 fps)
20 rounds - Federal Personal Defense Low Recoil 9 pell. OO Buck (1145 fps)
20 rounds - Winchester Ranger Low Recoil 8 Pellet OO Buckshot
50 rounds - Winchester Universal 2 3/4, 7 1/2 shot

The only malfunctions were in the first 5 rounds with the light Winchester Universals. No other malfunctions occurred with all the rounds expended. I’m a happy camper!

very nice…what rounds patterned the best and the worst for you through this weapon?

Looks really good

What did you fill the side holes in with? I normally just use black nylon hole plugs since they look just like rivets when they’re done.

Thanks!

terrymo - The Federal Tactical 8 pellet and Full power 9 pellet buck both with their Flight control wad shot a consistent 4" - 4.5" group at 25 yards.

The Nobel Sport LE 2 3/4, 12 pellet 00 Buckshot shot in the 9.5" to 10.5" at 25 yards.

DavePAL84 - I re-used the pins that held the original trigger components.

There really is nothing quit like a 18.5mm AK!

Here are current pictures of my Arsenal SGL-31 and Saiga 12. I refinished the Saiga 12 in O.D. Duracoat. Tuned the trigger assembly. Radiused the trigger edges and reprofiled the bolt hold open lever. Also, retextured the MD Arms “Molot” grip.

Ray T, what mag is that in your '74? Looks almost like ACU gray in color.

Moose-Knuckle,

It’s just a Bulgarian 30 rounder that I painted O.D… I think the lighting messed with the color.

Looks good.

Nicely done. I botched my first one a bit. Is that the original safety stop?

Thanks guys.

I am using Krebs Custom MK VI Enhanced Safety on my Saiga 12 and SGL-31.

Those are nice. I have two myself. What about the safety stop? Looks like yours is a part of (or bolted onto) your trigger guard.

chriskc04 - The safety stop is part of Carolina Shooters Supply Saiga-12 billet trigger guard.

Thank you, sir.

Probably a good call not messing with the PG nut hole. Mine ended up looking like a 5-year-old cut it out. :fie:

Looks good.

need to get mine converted. anyone wanna do mine for the experience? i’ll pay for the parts and shipping! pm me if interested.
