L-3 Communications, EOTech, Inc., Ann Arbor, Mich., is being awarded a $25,000,000 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for an optical sighting system for the M4A1 carbine in support of the U.S. Special Operations Command’s weapons accessories program. The optical sighting system will increase the operational effectiveness of the M4A1 carbine, M203 grenade launcher, and other special operations forces small arms. Work will be performed in Ann Arbor, Mich. and is expected to be completed by May 2015. Contract funds in the amount of $262,636 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not awarded on a competitive basis. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, Crane, Ind., is the contracting activity (N00164-10-D-JN68).
I was under the impression that Aimpoint was the current overseas favorite. I’d have said ‘follow the dollar’, but they say it was not a competitive award.
The EOTech 553 was adopted back in 2004 as part of the SOPMOD Block 2 improvements. Its designation is SU-231/PEQ. This would appear to be a simple follow-on contract.
The eotech’s have been sucking! I wish I knew the guy who keeps pushing them on us. They are not as relisble as aimpoints period. We’ve had battery issues and durability issuesd up the ass.
^^ yup! when I was In Iraq the battery’s sucked, they would just turn off on people, and warming up??? What The F&*K?! I had an Aimpoint and an ACOG later on. They both worked great. Im my personal opinion the eotech is for the normal joe who sits on a computer all night in forums like this, goes to the range twice a month (maybe) and wants to look cool with a tactical optic. I know there making improvements but these faults should have been addressed on the first model if there for soldiers walking the streets of Iraq or Afghanistan.
