I’m looking into one of these action cameras and im wondering which one is considered the better device. The GoPro i feel has the hype right now but i like the Contour’s size and ability to mount on a 1913 rail.
To me, Countour is better suited for mounting on or around guns. They are more streamlined, and are basically just a weapon light mounted on the rail. For a helmet camera, I prefer GoPro’s. They generally have a bit better video quality and better field of view, especially the newest Hero 3.

I haven’t recorded a view with the Hero 3 yet, but it would be better quality.
Just picked up a GoPro yesterday. Took it on a hike and shot some video and stills. Really impressed with it so far.
A couple things to keep in mind when buying a GoPro (I bought the HERO3 Black Edition);
-It does not come with a Micro SD card, that is separate. GoPro is recommending a Sandisk 64GB (10th Edition) which is $79.99 on their site.
-The mounts it comes with seem to be everything but the ones you want. I spent another $50.00 on the roll bar and helmet mount(s).
-The videos download in MP4 which is not supported by alot of programs. This means downloading a converter such as MPEG Streamclip (free and recommended) and converting files to the .MOV extension.
Just a couple of my observations. Otherwise, incredibly easy to use. Very user friendly with simple and intuitive controls. Waterproof case looks solid and the footage is really crisp.

I don’t have experience with either, but I decided a little while ago that a Contour+2 would be my choice. Hopefully soon.
Contour for low profile, GoPro for video quality. You can mount both anyway you choose with options available.
