Ok so I took my AR out shooting today and the first 4 shots the gun cycled like it should but then after that the rounds stopped ejecting and the spent casing kept getting stuck in the bolt and when I tried to pull back the charging handle the whole bolt carrier was completely stuck but when I finally got it to free up, i then loaded another mag and then I hit the bolt release and then bolt would not go into battery completely. I assume my extractor is screwed up???

Clarify please - spent casing kept getting stuck in the bolt is there any chance you meant chamber instead of bolt?

What kind of ammo?

What do the cases look like?

Did you use the forward assist to try to seat the round?

Barrel - chamber free of obstructions?

Sounds like the ammo or chamber is out of spec. The brand of rifle and what ammo will help also.

Is your gas key staked properly? I ask because I was in a class on Monday, and we had a similar problem with a gun, and it ended up being a loose gas key that was wedged in the upper…

No not the chamber, whenever I would get to pull the charging handle back and the bolt would move back, the shell casing would still be caught in the bolt and wouldn’t fly off

And whenever I would try to put a new round into battery the bolt wouldn’t completely go into battery MOST of the time, even after slamming the forward assist. I was shooting federal M193 which always runs in my gun

What kind of bolt is it had a friend have a dpms that the ejector spring was to weak to kick the case out from the extractor

Did firearm function well in the past or is this a new firearm? Is it clean and well lubed?

Do this at a range, or safe place to shoot.

Pull the bolt back and lock it in place.
Check the chamber for obstructions.
Without putting a magazine in, slide a round into the chamber.
Release the bolt/carrier.

Does it close on the round?

If no, slide the round out of the chamber, and pull the upper and check to see if the BCG slides easily and locks into battery without a round in the chamber. If it does not slide easily check the gas key.

If yes, fire the round. Does the case eject or get stuck.

If it is stuck, pull the BCG and check the ejector and extractor.

Most likely it is the extractor/ejector.

Check the chamber to make sure there’s not a broke casing stuck in there. What you described could happen if the neck of a broken casing is stuck in the chamber. Have to closely to notice it.

It is a spikes tactical nickel boron bolt. And the rifle has about 400 rounds through it with no problems until this. I always shoot this ammo. I just took my bolt completely apart and everything seems intact

It is a 16 inch middy with a daniel defense government profile barrel. Spikes tactical upper, spikes nickel boron bolt carrier group, spikes lower, Geissele SSA-E, spikes T2 buffer with the buffer spring that came with it, spikes buffer tube and Magpul CTR stock. The gas tube was letting gas through and the gas key was all good so I know it wasn’t a gas issue.

How is the gas block mounted to the barrel? Pinned or set screws?

This sounds like a cobbled together upper. Im guessing something went wrong during the assembly process.

barrel nut tight?

Test fire with a mil-spec BCG?

The spikes is mil spec and the barrel nut is very tight

Check to see if you are popping primers.

It’s possible that there is a brass shaving stuck in the ejector. Pull the bolt and verify that the ejector is not stuck.
