Considering BlackBerry Storm

I am considering getting a BB Storm but am concerned that it will not do what I want.

I have been a longtime Palm user and need to upgrade my PDA. If I were to get the Storm I would want it more as a PDA than the email access.

Any thoughts?

I have heard that the Palm pre may be coming from Verizon. I am tempted to wait but since my Palm is an old M515 I am assuming that I will have major upgrade issues anyway.

Thanks in advance.

I highly recommend the iphone. I cant think of anything that it can’t do, and do well.

It is a great piece of gear and gets better with each software upgrade.

The Palm Pre has gotten rave reviews and should be out in Verizon stores now. I didn’t go with a BB storm because it was the first version and figured that it would have problems. Yeah I was right. However the BB Storm recently received a software update that has supposedly fixed a lot of problems with it and folks are reporting that they are now happier with the device. Go to the stores, try them out, see whats being said on other message boards. I’m waiting to see what, if anything Apple will do with Verizon about putting out an iPhone under their network

Been using the BB Storm for 6 months now. Kicks ass. I’ve never had any issues with it. It’s perfect for getting up to minute emails from Bravo Co when they get the good gear in :). Plus you don’t have to give any money to those Apple fockers.

I am not a fan of the storm. I do run the BB 8330 though and love that for business purposes.

I have the Storm and like it a lot but version two should be out in the next 6-8 weeks so I’d hold off if you can. As far as Storm vs others you just have to decide what tools you need and the focus of the device. The BB is a business tool that’s been tweaked for the general public. The iphone is a media player with a phone tacked on, and IMO is finally ready for prime time with the latest version. It also has the most apps.

I have a Storm through my work. When it doesn’t lock up for minutes at a time, it’s really a pretty good work tool.

That being said, once my truck is paid off in February, I’m buying an iPhone.

Yea, just today there is news that Verizon has the BB9550 mock-up display model listed in their stock according to a couple of sites.

Guess I will wait for now. BTW I have an unreasonable aversion to Apple and Sony due to their propensity for proprietary issues.

Thanks for the guidance & please feel free to keep it coming!

I don’t care if you buy an iPhone or not. However, how is RIM less proprietary than APPLE? The argument could be made that it is MORE Proprietary (as in they control the email flow etc not you). And Apple uses LOTS of open source stuff in their offerings so you can easily get the source to lots of their stuff, add in your own libs from open source, etc. The low down is Apple is no more and no less proprietary than other major vendors (RIM, microsoft, etc)

I don’t know about that. The iPhone is the easiest to use most intuitive phone I have ever used (and I have used a lot though never a Blackberry and a WM only in tests but lots of symbian, and motorola, erickson, sony-erickson, nokia, and Samsung phones).

and IMO is finally ready for prime time with the latest version. It also has the most apps.

I have been using the Palm Pre for about a month. I dont have any complaints. There have been some complaints by user about the battery life, but it seems most of them didnt take the time to fully charge their Pre before they started complaining about it:rolleyes:

The other battery issue was traced back to a networking issue communicating with users hotmail accounts, which caused the battery to drain quickly.

While the battery life isnt great, it is as good or better than the iPhone, and pretty good when you consider all of the things you are doing on the Pre at the same time!

I dig the Pre. I think the iPhone has a bit more “cool” factor going for it, but the Pre has a few useful advantages over the iPhone in-terms of it’s OS, and they expect there to be a flood of new apps for the Pre in the up-coming months…

I already admitted it was unreasonable

I also am not ready to leave Verizon as my family is on their network.

I’d get it fixed. I’ve never had a problem.

A lot of people mean it and spread it around so was just trying to correct any misconceptions.

I also am not ready to leave Verizon as my family is on their network.

Buckaroo

That is a valid reason.

Like I said, I was not trying to convince you to get an iPhone. Just stop misinformation.

Good luck

Get the Palm Pre. I love mine.

I’ve had one of the BB Storms since it first came out simply because I didn’t want AT&T. I’ve played with iPhones, but the Storm does everything I need. I have had no issues with mine before or post new upgrade. My wife has a Storm also and loves it.

Blackberries are GREAT email devices, even with their non-intuitive keyboard. They are, however, TERRIBLE internet devices. Make sure of your specific needs before you buy.

I have to pull the battery out, it just freezes.

I am on my 2nd Storm and the touchscreen has just been to clunky for heavy email & txt useage. Hoping to get the BB Tour that came out this week on Verizon. It has a physical keyboard which I miss badly.
