Consensus on quality of replacement parts for 1911

I apologize if this has been covered as I read the tacked threads but couldn’t find an answer for this specific question.

If one is planning on a Colt Rail Gun and wishes to replace the FLGR with a USGI set-up - is there a great difference in parts available at Brownell’s - 10-8, Wilson, Ed Brown, etc. - for this. This will not be a duty pistol and I plan on keeping it stock aside from this change but would like it to work when used.

It’s obviously very simple and not earth-shattering - just wondering what folks who know a great deal more than myself believe.

I’m no expert, but in keeping my 1911 replacement parts/upgrades between Wilson Combat and 10-8 Performance, I’ve been a happy camper.

ive stuck with Wilson, Ed Brown and EGW and so far have been very happy.

did not have good luck with Swenson and one of the other “budget” brands that i cant recall offhand.

For a GI guide rod 'n plug, the BEST is a Wilson rod and a Colt plug with a Wolf 16lb spring.

Try and find a beveled Wilson Rod, a Wolf 16 spring and a Colt or C&S plug with the little tab to retain the spring.

what’s wrong with the FLGR in the CRG? If the guide rod is of good quality/design, I see no reason to remove it, ESPECIALLY on a railed gun

And to answer the actual question; Wilson, EGW, and Colt parts are what I prefer.

IF I were buying a GI rod from Brownells it would be a Colt…but any they sell would be fine when it comes to this part.

Edit: If your CRG is black then a round smooth AT plug direct from Wilson would be my choice.

I agree. I have used all three with zero issues.

The CRG is shipping from the factory with a full length guide rod? Both of my railguns came with the standard gi rod and plug. If it does indeed ship with an flgr, Colt and Wilson make great parts. There are quite a few options for quality gi rods on Brownells, as has been mentioned by previous posters.

Wilson, egw imo

Yeah my CRG had a GI rod from the factory. But, Wilson Combat gets my money for upgrades, especially if their bulletproof line.

My CRG is the same - GI guide rod.

Thanks for the info - I counted my chickens too soon and thought I was a lock for a GB auction on a CRG but it didn’t turn out so no worries.

I did get one of these though and am quite glad I missed out on the RG:

If anyone wants to recommend some basepads for the factory 7-rounders and a good closer-to-stock single-sided thumb safety I’m all ears.

I put a single sided Ed Brown thumb safety on my CRG. Fit it myself and I have been very happy. Ed Been has been my go to for upgrades and spare parts. That being said, I would have no problem using Wilson, NHC, Colt, EGW or any of the big name custom shops

ETA: I haven’t bought new basepads yet but you might look at MARS for basepads (if they sell them to have have then installed there)

The Recoil Spring Guide Rod, tactical single side thumb safety and an occassional carefully fitted beavertail grip safety are the only EB parts I have ever used on a build. The Guide Rods are nice for the money. Still gotta try the new Wilson guide rod.

For parts: Wilson, Cylinder and Slide, Brown, EGW.

The only aftermarket parts I have used are Ed Brown and Cylinder and Slide, both of those are good to go. I am sure Wilson’s are good parts as well.
