Would love to read the AP Stylebook on rifles. “If regarding individual use, write assault weapon or military-style rifle to suggest a negative implication. If government use, write patrol rifle.” Still waiting for the AP article that uses “police-style rifles”…
I think that what he is getting at is that firearm ownership is a direct representation of a given populations core beliefs with respect to the role of government and liberty. Populations with high rates of firearm ownership value independence and freedom, in contrast those that don’t sway towards big government (less freedom & independence). So figuratively the armed civilian presents as a big roadblock to the those who want to make government pervasive in all aspects of our lives. For all intents and purposes we the gun community are the last bastion of hope for America, the first domino that needs to be knocked over fully.
