Condition Three carry = fail

Again.

Poor guy. Shot and kicked. Shitty way to go. Looks like it was probably in front of family.

Carrying a weapon without a bullet in the chamber is pointless. You’d have a faster and more effective defense with a bat. Too bad this guy spent those precious seconds trying to get a round in the chamber, when he could have used those seconds to neutralize the threat had he been carrying loaded. Unfortunately for him, the mistake cost him his life.

Wow. That was painful to watch.

As for carrying without a round chambered, the Israelis seem to make it work. I’m sure they train the shit out of the movement, though, and I guarantee it’s still less than optimal. This guy definitely didn’t train (or he needed to train a lot more) and sadly he paid with his life.

He would have been better with no gun at all as no one else appears to have been shot. He basically just told the robbers to shoot him.

Looked like to me he was hit at least twice before he even got to the pistol.

um, it seem that the BG were directly to the man… so maybe they got some problems before…

Wasnt there any round in the chamber or it was but the gun jammed and he try to rack to get a round in the chamber?

sorry to hijack, but, wasn’t the israely carry method created do overcome non functional/non reliable safeties on surplus handguns of then Hagana?

However I have not find any evidence of that anecdote being true.

It was taught for the lowest common denominator. So many folks carrying without decent training.

When I was younger and new to regular carry I used to do this. Did it right up until the first time I had to actually draw my weapon in response to a threat. Thankfully the situation was resolved by other factors and I was able to learn from it.

How can you tell?

Fixed it for 'ya

Fair enough. The way I was told, the Israelis got rudimentary lectures and were turned loose.

You’ll not find me worshiping at the alter of Israeli martial prowess.

I hope his family and friends learn from his mistake and seek out proper training.

Man that video was rough.

This is why I’m no fan of deep concealment. A lot of times you get little or no warning, if you are lucky you won’t simply be shot without warning and then robbed for your stuff.

Having to fish out your carry piece from a difficult to access hiding place, or having to rack a slide or any other similar process to make your gun ready is all time given to the bad guy to shoot you and those you care about.

This is a big part of my decision to go with a OTW carry holster.

I wasn’t referring to the Israeli per se, just people in general.

speed kills. keep your weapon accessible, and keep it loaded. condition 3 is not loaded.

and train, dammit.

yea… that video is rough. being an American, most faces-of-death vids dont bug me, but i guess since this video could be any one of us, it has a greater effect.

I’m sure you’d agree though that training trumps practical in cases like this. As with many different threads as of late, just carrying a gun doesn’t mean it’ll do you any good if you don’t train with it. I’m sure quite a few folks here can draw just as fast from IWB as from OWB. I’ll admit I was a bit leery of IWB for the same reasons, but now after a couple years of practice, it just doesn’t seem to be that big of a disadvantage on the draw and adds a whole lot more to concealability.

From the video it appears more that they were simply caught with their pants down. Not a knock on them as I’m guessing the time from the bad guys walking in the door to the first shot fired was pretty damn quick.

Did anyone else notice that their main focus seemed to be stripping him of his gun rather than smashing jewelery cases? There appeared to be a lot of stuff going on off camera, but in my experience jewelery stores don’t showcase their premier (spendy) stuff near the door.

Was there any follow up in the news to this shooting that listed a motive? (I looked, but my Google-fu sucks)

Oh, and I agree… Condition 3 is stupid.

I was wrong…

This is the real story… http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/uncategorized/one-dead-two-injured-in-agra-market-shootout-lead_100289158.html

Police sources said the shootout was the result of a feud between two families. Around 15 months ago a shop owner named Ram Kishan Malhotra was shot dead. Police had then registered a case against Kundra and eight others. Shopkeepers said the dispute began over the possession of a commercial establishment in the Rui Ki Mandi area.

Police officials said the arms licences of both groups had been “cancelled long ago”. They suspect the arms used in the shootout Sunday were unlicensed.

I have no idea how this happened since their weapons weren’t licensed.

Of course.

I should have been more specific. Typically IWB holsters are are concealed by a shirt that must be pulled up and out of the way in order to draw (usually requiring both hands) and OWB holsters are typically concealed by a vest or jacket which can be cleared with the drawing hand. The latter tends to be faster.

Yep, they got blindsided. If he would have had one in the chamber he might have come out ok…maybe. I’m not gonna knock him, I’m sure in those moments he understood quite a few horrible things.
