Hello.
As long as the psych doc decides I’m not crazy I’ll be starting a new career as a probation officer. I haven’t gotten any of the policy info yet regarding equipment but I’m looking for a cuff carrier. Preferably to be worn at 4 o clock as that mimics my current duty belt set up. I’m thinking about a raven but I’ll need something in the interim if I go that route as the wait time is prohibitive.
Suggestions?
I’ve carried a DeSantis leather pull-through handcuff carrier off-duty and during my tour at the academy for years. While I generally prefer Kydex, I haven’t found a Kydex carrier that is as concealable and comfortable as the DeSantis carrier.
I use the Raven cuff carrier. The only thing I’ve found that it is tricky to place the cuffs back into the case properly when it’s mounted on your rear waistline.
There’s no good way to hide cuffs on a belt without a heavy cover garment. There’s no real iwb options and if there were they most likely wouldn’t be convenient to use.
If you’ve got a cover garment, and are using hinged cuffs, just tuck them into the waistline of your pants, with one blade inside your pants and the other blade outside your pants and under your belt. To get them out, just push up on cuff blade under your belt then loop a finger under the main hinge between the cuffs and pull them out. If you practice you can get them into correct speed cuffing position with nary a bobble. I’ve got a desantis leather cuff case for office wear, but when I’m just out and about and carrying cuffs (not something I do often) they just go under the belt.
I must say I love the expression. Nary a bobble. I got the Galco because I’m a large fan of the Havana leather color. So far I’m digging it. It isn’t non existent but with the right clothing it gets a lot less noticeable.
