Concealed carry permit help needed.

I am a Nevada resident and have a current concealed carry permit for my state. I also have a non-resident permit for Utah which covers quite a few more states in my favor. Typically I travel in the western half of the U.S., Colorado and west of it, on a frequent basis and would like to extend my legal means of carrying to several other states that are not currently included in the reciprocity of my 2 permits.

If you have knowledge pertaining to how I may best acquire a non-resident permit in any of the below listed states it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance for any and all information. From east to west:

  1. Colorado - I know of no way for me to legally obtain a permit.
  2. New Mexico - Only way I think is to get FL permit and not 100% sure.
  3. California - Better odds at becoming the next President.
  4. Oregon - I believe residents of neighboring states may apply. Unsure of difficulty.

My intention is not to go broke trying to get permitted in every state and to try to make this as easy as possible. Hopefully we can lay down some good info to help others in the future as well. I find the interactive map at http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry_permit_reciprocity_maps.html to be very helpful.

You can get a Florida permit as a non-resident which will cover you for New Mexico, but none of the others on your list.

OR will issue to residents to neighbor states.

CA and CO, you have to have “connections” to be even considered for one and you have to be a resident.

Thanks! The cost of getting a permit for FL to be recognized in NM is prohibitive but I may just end up doing it.

So CA and CO are a no go no matter what. Figures, I spend lots of time in both.

Irish,
New Mexico does have an open carry law, and it is widely seen down here close to the border. Also, New Mexico law allows a person who is not otherwise prohibited to have a concealed loaded firearm in his/her vehicle (including motorcycles and bicycles). See 30-7-2 NMSA 1978.

There are some phone numbers on thier website.

My understanding in regards to Oregon is it depends in which county you apply. Some are easy and others just will not do it. I don’t spend much time there so I have never bothered.

Thanks for the info AI. I’m a huge proponent of people having the right to OC but not a big fan of doing it myself. I might just give it a try next time I’m there rather than adding to the hundreds of $$$'s I’ve already put out to several states to exercise my Constitutional rights.

I remembered getting an email forwarded about this. Should be some help as Oregon does not require the issue of non resident permits.

Great info, thanks Todd!

Its next to impossible to get a CCW as a resident here unless: You are “connected”, have been a victim of a violent assaulted and have survived to file a police report and “live in fear of your life” or can PROVE you run a businees in which you transport large sums of money or valuables daily.

AND…

Sheriff Palmer wants to issue you a CCW even as a non resident so Oregon shouldnt be an issue.

huh, I was told that it was as easy as donating a million bucks to some scumbag er, a,I mean,… politician

For a non resident permit in Ca. it’s probably very very hard. But as a resident it depends on the county you live in. Some are shall issue, I live in Humboldt and it’s fairly easy to get one. Now for Co. again not sure on the non resident permit, but my buddy who lives over in Colorado Springs got his pretty easy.

LOL!!!
Funny but true, really.

When I did my homework before applying for mine, I obtained a CCW holder number of 4000 out of almost 2,000,000 people in SD county.
We see who is really running the show…

BS. Colorado has had shall issue for residents since 2004. This may not help Irish out since he is a NV resident, but we should not spread misinformation via the interweb machine.

Colorado has reciprocity w/ Utah and Florida as well as many more.

Colorado is also a shall issue state. Anyone can get a CCW if they take an approved course and pass the background check.

Upon further reading according to Colorado law, you must be a resident of the issuing state to recieve reciprocity.

I would check to see what states offer reciprocity, I’m pretty sure AZ offers it. That may eliminate some work. Good luck Irish.

Irish, talk to the KahrHeart, she offers CHL classes in OR and also has been registered to do UTAH classes in OR as well, she will probably be able to help you with OR chl.
