Residents in Connecticut were confronted with the reality that their constitutionally protected rights are not inalienable as they stood in long lines to register their firearms. The registration is mandated by the state’s new gun law set to go into effect on January 1, 2014.
Michael Lawlor, the Governor’s Criminal Policy Liason, says this registration deadline is for any current or future residents of the state. He adds that while there are exceptions in the penalties for first-time offenders, anyone caught with an assault weapon after January 1st could be charged with a felony and face a mandatory minimum of 1 year in prison. So, if you miss the deadline – your options are limited.
Comply or become a Felon.
And while twitter was buzzing with a blustery chest responses:
“Holy crap. Looks like Weimar Germany,” Twitter user @votermom said of the photo.
“Another disgusting picture from Connecticut . . .men waiting in line to register guns with the government,” user @chipwoods commented.
“First, they came for the guns,” @PaulRReyes added.
“Life is too short to live in a state that does this to its residents,” Twitter user @lancemfisher declared
When are people in the firearms community going to realize you can’t win by compromising with the other side? Actually, forget firearms-people in the country at large. It’s all about “give and take” and “common sense” as long as we’re doing the giving and they’re doing the taking.
I guarandamntee you, you’d get the same picture in ANY state were this to go national tommorrow…
American lifestyles are to comfortable to be non-compliant and risk a felony. One must feel physical pain and/or hunger to rebel against authority and risk confinement, loss of job, voter rights and ability to care for dependents IMHO.
The registered guns are going to have to be turned in soon. That was the original plan anyway. Once they know where they are, the new law will be “Turn them in, or we’re coming to get them…” There’s already rumblings that such a bill will be drafted this year.
"For the first time in the United States, a citizen who has legally registered a gun will have to submit to a renewal process. The consequences of not knowing about this new law or missing the specific 60-day window are dire.
Starting on Jan. 2, every single D.C. resident who has registered a firearm since 1976 must go to police headquarters to pay a $48 fee and be photographed and fingerprinted. The Metropolitan Police Department estimates there are at least 30,000 registered gun owners."
Don’t be so sure of yourself. There are areas of this country where “bucking the system” comes rather naturally, and guns are part of the culture…what a coincidence, huh? Look who these commie states vote for; it’s rather telling. Sure, not everyone there did but the inmates run the asylum. That’s not the case “in ANY state”. Painting with a broad brush is a mistake.
Also, how many guns are NOT being registered? You see lines of sheeple. How many more people aren’t in those lines? In addition to that some of those people in those lines are registering one gun so they can legally have something to shoot…think every one of those folks only owns one evil assault weapon?
Yeah, it’s a sad day to be sure. It’s not the end. This on a national level would be a disaster for the powers-that-be.
If you didn’t sense the pushback after Sandy Hook you weren’t paying attention. Gunowners were tired of being apologetic. When Fineswine proposed her NFA scheme for AW’s there was a collective “F**k you!” There was a palpable feeling out there that we were on the brink of something on a national level that would’ve singlehandedly created the largest number of instant felons in our history and people were outraged at the very thought of it. They blinked, we didn’t. Sure, they’ll be back to try again. But if they walked away with anything from this past year it was the realization that it just might not work out like they thought it would should they succeed.
Reading and seeing this, plus the comments that “we are doomed, lets face,” is really ****ing depressing.
2014 will show whether the tide has turned, or I will be an insurgent. To hell with this subtle references of come and take them. Since the liberals are coming out that they are socialists/communists, since they are unabashed at calling us baby, child killers, since they have no fear, than neither should we.
It is fine time we start affirming lines in the sand. not just saying, but full fledged lines. You come and try to take our legally owned firearms, affirmed by the Bill of Rights, there will be blood. Let it be known they are pushing way to far.
The NSA knows about my intentions anyways, so **** them, and **** the progressives. I am finished being nice to them.
Stand up for your rights, or be stand upon. **** 'em!
I agree 100%. However, discretion is the better part of valor should push come to shove. Loud and adamant while it’s a political issue. If it gets to the next level then smile and wave at the Man as he passes by and then bury the dagger DEEP in his back.
It’s a shame that that long line of men was to register instead of coming to storm their capitol in protest before the law was passed. Sometimes people should just stop the process by saying No, we won’t play this game anymore. And stop working, period- as long as it takes, until the end is achieved.
