Not sure if this recent event has been discussed on here but I saw a news segment discussing this earlier tonight in which a mother and 2 year old son were both injured during a gun battle between police and a bank robber.

As mentioned in the article a total of 42rds were fired at the vehicle containing the robber, the mother and the boy. The mother was hit in the foot but the shot placement on the boy wasn’t mentioned.
i totally agree,but i dont know if they knew the children were in the car until it was over hopefully the little boy will recover completely
I’m praying he will as well, but the average 2 year old probably weighs less than 20lbs and getting hit with a service caliber anywhere on his body must have caused a horrendous amount of damage

Two officers fired as the car traveled along Baymeadows Road. Two more officers fired at the car. When it came to a stop, the officers approached and found the two children in the back seat.

If the guy was swerving at them, you have to do what you have to do.
A two year old in the back seat of a car can be hard to see, folks. Yes, the outcome sucks…but that doesn’t mean that the officers looking over the sights had bad judgment.
The world looks much different when you are looking over the sights of a weapon in a critical moment.
Wes007, you shouldn’t Monday-morning-quarterback with media-distributed accounts, which are worthless. There were hard decisions made based on numerous factors at that moment, not based on a summarized version of the situation in the news. It’s fine to point out that the results were shitty, but to say what the LEOs did was “completely unacceptable” without first-hand knowledge is unacceptable in itself.
Rutherford explained, “We wait until the criminal proceeding is over before forcing them to speak with us. Most officers in these situations will confer with their attorney prior to releasing a statement.”

There is a good lesson for all of us if we are ever involved in a shooting. Even cops talk to their lawyers first before talking.
You and JW777 are both correct and provide points that I failed to mention.
I am not an LEO so I’m obviously unaware of the procedures, rules, guidelines( or whatever the name may be) that they must follow in an active shooter situation.
