so what is the proper orientation of one of this type of muzzle brake?

Large ports on sides, small holes on top.

Rotate from the position described above slightly until muzzle rise is minimized or you are most comfortable

For rightys it (the top of the brake) may end up being around like 1-2 o’clock

Thanks ended up with it with the small holes @ about 1330
