4) “Why isn’t my pet brand on the Chart? How can I gloat to all my friends if my gun isn’t listed?” If you are asking about a gun you already bought, that ship has sailed. If you are asking about a gun that you are interested in buying, read the Explanation of Features, educate yourself, and ask the manufacturer intelligent questions. Space constraints dictate that there is no room to include every single maker under the sun, and time constraints limit my ability to simply add every Tom, Dick, and Harry that gets a wild hair and decides to start making an AR.

I would like to try to get an idea of actual street pricing for these different guns as well. I know this is hard, especially with Colt, as prices fluctuate with supply and demand, but this is what I have so far. Let me know if you think this is accurate or not.
The SDI info looks right, although I don’t think it’s fair to dock points for not having 4150 steel in the barrel. They use MIL-B-11595 CMV alloy for their barrels which meets (or exceeds) the milspec for this application. This is the same alloy they use for their M2 BMG barrels and is just about the best barrel steel you can buy.
And the previous poster is correct, SDI M4 rifles sell for ~$1000 for most dealers.
I debated on the steel issue. I wonder if there’s another way it can be phrased to separate the 4150/CMV from the 4140 etc.
Could we just call it “milspec barrel steel”, or would that be too open to interpretation? Obviously the question that opens up is “how do you know what’s milspec?”
There are three different steel’s that are allowed to be used. The 4150 steel that BM uses is not one of the three. Colt, LMT, SD, BCM all use the proper steel listed in MIL-B-11595E.
Stag barrels are parkerized under the FSB.
While stag barrels use taper pins, they are installed backwards and tight as hell. (this is neither a + or a - in my book)
There are limited runs of M4 feedramped Bushmaster uppers, particularly for the Texas DPS.
The dealer that sold these made a bunch of extras and I see them through my shop occaisionally.
I have NEVER seen a Rock River barrel that used taper pins.
This does not mean that the particular model in the chart does not use them, I’ve just never seen one through my shop.
It would be very odd indeed to use taper pins only on one particular model and then use straight pins on every other model.
If you buy the upper and lower separately, you can assemble an LMT rifle for less than $1000. When you buy a complete LMT rifle, you pay more mainly due to the 11% federal excise tax.
However, I think this chart is comparing complete, factory built rifles only.
How do you HPT a bolt without also firing the black pill round in a barrel as well?
It’s not like you would keep running black pills through the same barrel to test different bolts.
The barrel extension would get beat all to hell in a short time.
You would fire one round through each barrel/bolt combination and then do the MP testing afterwards.
Your table cells are wide enough to just list the barrel steel for each one as there are basically three available options: CMV, 4150 or 4140
Ignore the steel type in the count and just make it an informational table entry or just score a 1 for CMV and 4150, but not for 4140 if you are stuck on counting statistics…
