Commission Recommends Women in Combat

I see issues with this, but whatever. Uncle Sam will do whatever he wants and the boots on the ground will have to pick up the pieces.

These policies constitute a structural barrier that prevents women from entering the tactical/operational career fields associated with promotion to the flag/general officer grades and from serving in career-enhancing assignments.

I see issues with it at first but with time it will sort its self out the hardway

If a woman can meet all the requirements let her serve. If she can’t then don’t. Simple. But do not put in a separate set of retirements for Males and females.

I think .mil should discriminate on whatever basis necessary to achieve the most capable fighting force possible. If that means women in combat, fine. If it means women out of combat, fine. .mil is not society in general and equal rights and equal opportunity should not be the issue.

I have served with a few true female warriors. If the Mongol Horde was comming over the hill and they were in a fox hole with me, Id be okay with that.

However I think its a big mistake putting women in the infantry (cant speak for tankers/artillery/scouts). They just arent built for it no matter how much heart they have. I just dont see a 120 lb woman carrying a combat load and then being able to pick up the slack from an injured soldier.

it’s cool… i don’t see 'em getting through OSUT, which, relative to other infantry training and infantry tasks, is pretty light weight. so long as they dont lower standards to force them in, there’ll be maybe two females in the infantry. ever.

+1

In addition to that, I’m thinking that more women had a better chance of passing the old APFT than they will will with the new.

Hate to tell you, but they will. Just like every other “closed” profession where women have been forced in. Just ask firemen, policemen, etc… in most areas. Now I’m sure there are places where the rules haven’t been changed for them, but not many.

Meh. I know several truly squared away female soldiers. That said… We already have issues with coed units. Imagine the crap Joe is going to screw up when he’s spooning with Jane in a foxhole to stay warm? Also, it’s true I did know several squared away female soldiers, but physically they weren’t up to par with the line units.

that’s the issue. the main issue, anyway. i’ve packed rucks that weigh more than some women. how the hell’s a woman gonna hump 90+lbs of shit for days? she’s not.
