Commercial AK-74 mags

Above is one of Tapco’s recent efforts in the AK-74 mag department. As far as I can tell, they still lack the metal locking lugs of the military versions. Might be OK for range plinking, but most certainly lacks the durability of the military ones. I think the above color is supposed to mimic the orange Bakelite variants.

Presumably, it’s pretty expensive to manufacture a polymer mag with the metal reinforcements or I would think that commercial copies would be more widely available. Thoughts?

Small US manufacturers can not compete with former command economy state run arsenals when it comes to designing and producing a magazine.

Where can I get some good quality AK-74 mags? Are there any that I need to avoid like the plague?

Any military production magazines from warsaw pact states should be a good bet, I would avoid any commercial magazines out of bulgaria (ie the bullet magazines, which iirc are only in 7.62x39) or any US made magazines.
