Talking in a firefight and while in the act of shooting back. Most common one you ended up using, as I’m sure Murphy rules and you ad lib accordingly.
Prone?
Knee?
Standing (well, crouching)?
Supported (rock, vehicle door, wall, etc.)?

Prone, kneeling, and supported.
Standing pretty much only inside structures.

Usually from standing/supported from behind armor or other cover.
prone, kneeling (supported & unsupported) various improvised positions depending on venue, weather, structure, vehicles, contact direction, squad tactics while moving, PSD movement considerations etc.
Prone and kneeling mostly. Standing when moving indoors.

Standing as most of my time was spent behind a .50… but kneeling was most common outside of that. Depending on ones job will dictate this alot. Ie. Snipers most likley prone, machinegunners prone or standing. Ect
Great response guys, thanks!
Starting to see a pattern: prone and kneeling most often. Having been a grunt (but luckily in mostly peaceful times) I understand the value of “low profile”…it’s also instinctive when crap is flying your direction.
I’ll assume the kneeling mentioned most often means an impromptu drop-down-and-shoot as opposed to any formal KD range kneeling position.
I found myself in the prone a lot when running my two machine gun teams gun teams when I was a weapons squad leader. As a medic I’ve done very little shooting but it was usually standing or kneeling behind cover. I found that having 4 mags in two Tactical Tailor double mag shingles across the front of my kit really helped me get into the dirt when proning out, and kneepads are a must! I have engaged in the standing position a few times, but always from cover (thanks to then SSG and now CSM JPA for beating that into my head as a private!)
Kneeling behind and around cover or kneeling supported on rocks and sandbags. Stopped to shoot from standing on the move. Once when running like a chicken with his head cut off trying to get to cover because I had none with in 100 meters. Now that I think about it I haven’t shot from prone yet.
