I’m not arguing too much your point as if I was to buy a complete rifle, I’d probably go Colt as well. But with the AR platform, I don’t see much difference. I have an old CAPCO A2 that I love to death. Is it pretty? No, but she gets the job done and I’d have to say that even though I don’t purposely beat her up, I don’t cry when she gets a scuff on the barrel either.
It’s like a 10.5" Colt Commando. At 10.5" I would rather go with a pistol length 300BO for close quarters or 100-200 yards out. I really don’t see any benefit of a 10.5" 5.56 other than someone “can”. Looks good at the range but is hardly one I would trust my life to - yet people still buy them.
For those of you preaching “they’re just as good as”… what are your splits on the A-zone at 25 yards? Have you ever fired for score (or at all) beyond 300 yards? 500? (Because you’re the same person saying an SBR is only good for hits out to “200 yards max” [You know who you are. I searched through your old posts])
Why does shooting the gun never get discussed as much as buying the gun? People are quick as hell to defend their decision to buy CHF and how it affects barrel life, but there’s never any discussion on what their bullets are doing after they leave the barrel.

Well, honestly, I’ve never shot a CHF… I’m building it now, but never shot it. If you know or have any insight, I would sure like to hear it. I’m not even going to pretend to be an expert shooter. My three years in the military, I never qualified “expert”. So the way I look at it, milspec barrel MOA is prolly pretty much good enough for me - what is that? 2 MOA? I’m the limiting factor on my shooting, not my rifle.
Plenty of high speed dudes choose 10.5 inch guns for combat and are kicking ass with them. My old squad leader has kills out to 400 meters with his Mk18 and told me it’s his favorite rifle.
I have no doubts that 99% of the time everything is great… It’s that 1% that worries me. But honestly, I have no desire/experience for a 10.5" 5.56 or MK18. Just personal preference I guess.
Home defense. A 100% success rate at the range doesn’t mean much if you use a weapon for home defense an get a FTF. The short dwell of a 10.5" carbine is something that I would be concerned with. Obviously some people may never get a FTF with their MK18 but I’ve read some with 10.5" build do have FTF. I’d be more comfortable with a 10.5" pistol length 300BO vs a 10.5" carbine 5.56.
Never had either and the bad thing about the web is a lot of disinfo. But if I can afford a DD MK18, I would probably give it a shot. But right now I can’t so I would be happy building me a 10.5" 300BO.
