All except the “Operator” logo…A bit over the top, just my 2 cents.
I’d like to see the custom fitting of the factory FSB in the 9" LT rail.
I am sure it’s a nice set-up, as his work with the AR/M16 is legendary.
Sounds familiar, although I used a DD rail because it requires a bit less grinding of the stock FSB and is actually lighter than the same-length LT rail.
I’m glad to see that they also went with the 9.0 over the shaved non-F-FSB instead of trying to use a taller FSP. I made the same decision with mine.
Basically what you have there is a 6520 barrel with a shaved FSB under a free-float rail and attached to a 6920 upper. Since a 6520 is about $1k right now, and an LT rail is about $250, and if you buy a stripped M4 upper you can recoup most of the cost by selling the stripped A2 upper, it appears that you’re basically paying $650 in labor.

Nice rifle, rob.
WRT the ‘Operator’… doesn’t he get $150 for the “Reliability Package” work?
If so, it would be $500 for the labor/creativity. Of course a few others here can do similar work.
Good point on the “reliability package”. I’ve thought of sending mine in for that several times, but I just can’t bring myself to pay for something I don’t know what it is.
Everyone knows that the standard cost to engrave “Operator” on the upper receiver is at least $500.00.
Na, I sent a 6933 in for the reliability upgrade and somethings I could visually see where that the front site pins were in a good bit deeper than when I sent it off. The M4 feedramps appear to widened and smoothed out/polished. The magazine catch was smoothed out and you can tell a difference when you seat a magazine. It feels like it just slides with in the hole. The heavy duty extractor sping was installed and there was some polishing or whatnot done to the extractor. H3 buffer was put in. It might have just been me, but the trigger feels a little smoother, not lighter; just smoother. I have 2 6933’s and can tell a difference in the one since it came back. A few other wear/contact spots were polished on. I guess it was worth it. If it makes it run better and not choke; I could have blown $150 or worse shit. I let you know after Pat’s December class in SC.
Actually, I believe if you buy a rifle from them, they only charge $100.00 for the reliability upgrade, so that is $550.00 to engrave “Operator” on the upper receiver. I am sure that cost is just the “rare value” cost, similar to the 6920HB they have listed for I believe over 2K.
Edit to Add: I apologize, due to fatigue I posted a question that was originally intended for a PM. Carry on.
I just ordered a 6920HB from SAW. Just wanted something a little different and maybe more collectible. I mean how many people are ever going to have one.
Just the rich. Congrats on the new rifle though! If I could buy one I would.
Thanks. I have other limited editions. AK’s and stuff. The only problem is that you can’t really shoot them. They are nice for a collection but thats it.
Some people won’t own a firearm like that and I don’t blame them.
I do have an Arsenal AK that I shoot the heck out of.
Now that Tactical operator I would definately shoot the heck out of and enjoy it.
Which might very well be worth it considering when you factor everything in.
You get the reliability package that is $150
The professionally shaved FSB that doesn’t have mangled FSB pins or holes and has the original Colt finish put back on it. Not this “all in one moonlight park job where the FSB and barrel are reparked together with whatever park solution is avaliable at the time” that most other places do. I’d gladly pay $250 for proper FSB work and park.
Then you have the rail install which is $50 and the custom engraving which is another $75. Now your up to $500 in professional/factory like labor.
I think we can see who one of the SAW customers are…![]()
I also park barrels without the FSB.
Actually I’ve never had the reliability package done or ever bought a complete gun from them.
I was just pointing out the $650 is not all some padded mark up.
It’s always seemed funny people go crazy about spending $50 to correct flaws on a Stag but eagerly fork up $650 to work on a Colt that everyone says is GTG out of the box.
I imagine that the majority of those that will buy this rifle will be buying it as a collector item, hince not really minding the extra cost. I have the reliability work done on my guns as “extra insurance” just like buying a crane o-ring for the extractor. I see this rifle as the 6920HB and the camo’d Colt rifles of early days, just something special.
If I ever win the lottery and can afford the 300 min order, I will make a special order to Colt for something oddball, who knows maybe a 12.5" medium barrel with intergal rail like the 1020LE and sell them for a premium. I haven’t decided if they will be finished in Multicam or gold plated though? I think that may be what the operator is, just something different and interesting.
I’ve e-mailed Tina regarding this gun, and am waiting for her responce. Its pretty close to what I was going to have Ken build.
One thing to remember is Ken’s prices tend to be a bit higher for factory guns, tehn you’ll see elsewhere, so that should be figured into the price. Colt barrels also run a little high, as I understand it.
I don’t my mind paying a little extra because SAW is aknown quanity to me. I just passed up an LE6920 for 1200 at the Tulsa show, because I prefer to give Ken my business, and for me, its worth the extra.
I beleive the AR15a3 is running about 12 or 1300 on his site. 6920’s are about 1400.
Regarding the reliability package. Ken does not disclose what he does for various reasons, but if you read his site, he indicates, all he does is take a good gun and make it better. $100 if you buy the gun from him, is not really alot, nor is it a complete rebuild or replacement of parts, just some minor tweaking. As you can see most people have no problems with their out of the box 6920’s, so I see it as insurance and not a nessecity.
Bob
I hope you get faster replies to your e mails than I ever got from Tina. I stopped doing business with them because of the amount of time it took to get a response to a message.
Hootie-
Did your Reliability Package include a new (low-mass) hammer and/or blue hammer spring?
