Colt Tactical is a new division stand up by Colt defense to provide commercial end user and also individual LE officers a different option than the standard LE6920/6940. With this new division, Colt is committed to providing a long term presence and regain the foothold that was lost years ago to other manufacture.
the new division will offer LE6940 with upcoming Vltor iMOD stock, Vltor flip up front sight post and also a KAC 600m Micro BUIS. the gun should be packaged with 3-5 30rds magazines.
there will also be other options available, such as a 6920 with free float rail(so far no decision on the manufacture, the rail are on display only), 300m micro BUIS and iMOd stock. a 6520 with flat top, free float rail, 300m micro BUIS and iMOd stock. plus many more options and a possible parts market for the commercial gun builders.

Nice - I wish they’d have gone with a longer rail on the 6940, but I understand that M4 gas systems are their “thing.” Any move by Colt to better support the market currently being super-served by BCM, LMT, Daniel Defense et al, is good news, because Colt CAN do support.
Why the Vltor flip up front sight instead of the standard 6940? If you want a front flip up, the 6940 is no-nonsense. The Vltor is one of the most pointless front sights I’ve ever seen, with those useless faux-rails machined onto them, and the use of an AK-style post instead of an AR post.
My thoughts as well. It confirms some rumors I had heard awhile back, and I’m embarrassed to admit I thought I either misunderstood what I was told, or that the info was flawed… my bad.
Longer rail 6940 is part of the road map but no announcement will be made during SHOT in regards to that particular model.
Vltor front sight post is one of the strongest as Stickman has mention, and it is also one of the lowest profile unit. the Vltor unit get rid of the taller Colt cast steel unit for a forged low profile while giving the end user back the standard carbine gas tube vs. the straight tube inside the 6940.
Everything on the Colt Tactical is tested and tested again, or any of the components will not be on a Colt rifle. Have you ever seen the testing that goes into every components that is on a Colt rifle? Colt products are built and tested to the same high standards that Colt uses on Mil Spec weapons, after market components also must meet or exceed the same testing before being approved for use on a Colt product. so yea, you are getting the best on the market. and unlike a clubber together rifle, your Colt Tactical rifle will be thoroughly tested to ensure reliability and functionality.
Good to hear Colt is finally making a larger investment in the civilian market with practical features and options. Can’t wait to see the catalog once it’s published.
Colt has been working slowly but steadily toward this goal for a long time. they are careful in the steps they take in getting to a certain goal, this is not a fly by night operation, once Colt make a commitment into a market, it is not likely for them back out of it quickly.
Not a chance. In the QUALITY market there are but a couple. Colt, BCM to name a couple. The so-so quality market is saturated. The quality market is not.
Agree - this will be a hit. I am still tainted by the sear block abomination and post-ban setups(before there was even a ban) when they went uber political, but a poney for the people will be great.
What makes the front sight on the 6940 so awful… I have no complaints about it and absolutely rock solid. Takes ALOT of effort to put down or up.
Pretty much every other 6940 owner has said the same, honestly I’ve never came across a complaint about it from someone that actually owns the rifle to include this forum, ARF and others.
