Colt sear block/carrier question.

Stuck in a ban-state I’m looking for a pre-ban lower to build off of (I already have other AR’s but I really would like to have a collapsing stock). Question is this, a lot of Colt lowers have the sear block, I know you cannot use the auto carrier, but what about the semi? Will it close? I know Colt made half moon carriers for some of these but I’m not all intrigued by that.

If it is legal in your state you can just have the sear block removed.

Thanks and I have thought of that before. My state laws don’t get that specific, but my guess would be that if you got the one officer who knew what he was looking at (lower w/ removed sear block) and didn’t like the fact that a Civi owned it, you’d be getting cuffed. I try to steer clear of that kinda stuff. I carry ATF letters for anything and everything you can think including 922r compliance for AK’s and the ATF non-flash suppressing device letter for FSC556. Hell, I even make sure my pre-ban AR mags are dated prior to '94. Officers around here have varying views of 2A.

No one? I just need to know if a semi carrier can be used in the a sear block lower or if you have to use the half circle carrier? I don’t have the chance to check before buying off EE that’s why I’m asking.

Yes, you can use a semi auto carrier with the colt sear blocked lower. Certain match triggers wont fit because of the sear block, but thats it. If you do remove the sear block just clean it up with paint or some kind of finish, dont leave it bare metal in case someone does look inside.

You can use a full circle semi auto carrier in a blocked lower.

Dremel that sear block flush to the receiver and you can run a full auto bolt. That is what I did, it took ten minutes.

Thank you very much guys. This will be run with midlength gas so I think the semi carrier and an H buffer will be fine.

Did this with mine too – milled off the top of the block, left the rest of it. You could do this too, and the sear block is still there in case you get that mythical super detail oriented officer! :wink:
