On gunblast.com they have pics from shot that says colt is reintroducing the pocketlite .380. Does anyone have any info about when and how much. I am thinking it would make a nice backup gun for my commander. Thanks in advance.
I hope they get it right this time. When I was selling them back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, they came in two flavors, cherry or lemon.
If you got one that worked, it ran really well and was a great little pocket gun.
But, if you got one that didn’t, and that happened more than it should have, then the best thing to do is sell it and move on.
I had a Mustang Government (longer frame then the pocketlite and full steel) back when I was fresh out of college. I had some parts from S&M and Associates, and it was a favorite pistol, but things being what they where it went down the road. When I had cash again I started looking for another, but by then the prices had gotten crazy. I bought a Sig p238 awhile back and frankly it is better in every way then the Colt was. My opinion at this point is if you want a 380 1911 get the Sig.
I was told by the Colt rep at SHOT that they should be available soon. He also stated that the double action Pony would be reintroduced in the summer/fall time frame. He had no info if they would bring back the Pocket 9.
These have been good, reliable pistols for me over many years. My wife has carried the Nitelite until she (recently) went over to a Walther PPS in 9mm. The Nitelite was a Colt Custom Shop version of the stainless/aluminum Mustang Pocketlite, with night sights (which have long since decayed to nothing).

Dave C, Did that colt rep happen to have any idea if they would be in the ballpark of what the other .380’s being sold already are priced, or are they pricing them to keep pace with the guys trying to sell them on Gunbroker.
…
wow i hope so The very first handgun I bought was the Colt pocketlite .200.00 ![]()
The Guys dad was so upset about it he offered Me a Ruger security six stainless 357 magnum and ammo in trade so he could get it back .
I only had it for a Month but it ran Like a Dream .I would love to get another
I don’t understand why you would do this when the Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless and the 1908 were far superior designs.
IMO the .380 is strickly a BUG---------at best, although based on the current sales, I’m guessing a lot of newbie CCW carriers are buying them as a primary. I used to want a Govt. .380 since I love 1911s so much. But after buying a K-T .380 a few years ago, and enjoying its size, weight, cheap price and POCKET CLIP, I have no desire to trade up to a Colt. And for those wondering, it’s been completely reliable after a little intelligent polishing.
So not to pee in the pool, but does anyone see Colt doing well with this reintroduction considering the popularity of the K-T/ LCP, and the street price differences? Getting back in my lane now…
From a quality standpoint, I think Colt will always be competitive with Ruger, and certainly with KelTec. Especially in an expanding market for CCW. You may see it as a backup, but there are a lot of new pistol shoppers who want something for their purse and are willing to pay for perceived Colt quality.
That makes as much sense as anything. Sometimes I forget just how much the new gun buyer doesn’t know yet. I hope this makes Colt some money, but would personally rather see them cranking out more good variations of the 5" 1911.
Agreed. Especially since Colt is starting to release .380’s and other gun makers are going to the pocket 9 mm now.
The early ones where buggy and they did make some changes to address it. If I remember correctly the date to look for is June 2010 for production. If it is after that it should be good to go. Also you want the third generation mags. I have around 400 rds including some JHP with one failure to extract the first round I fired weakhand, which was a limp wrist in my opinion. I have shot a bunch more weakhand with no issues.
If they reintroduce the .380 Government, I’m all in. Mine was a great shooter…and beautiful. Real heavy for its size tho. But I wouldn’t carry it anyways.
The Mustang is a bit on the homely side, IMO.
Me too, count me in for a stainless one. I had one of these and traded it for a Remington Model Seven in .243. Nice gun but I miss my Mustang. It is good to see Colt getting back to their bread and butter. Now I just need a Combat Elite with the blued slide.
Maybe another manufacturer will start making a high end double action revolver with a beautiful finish and Colt will reintroduce the Python. It seems to have worked with the .380 pistol!
A man can dream, can’t he? ![]()
Yes indeed we can!
