Another question, thank you for putting up with a newb –
My local gunshop has a used Colt R6830, 7.62x39, pre-ban receiver for sale. It has been fired (shows much wear on recoil spring front) but seems to be in very good condition. He is asking $1000 for it, low as he would go. I have an AK variant, not having to buy 5.56 would be a plus for me and I want to become familiar with the M4 style mechanics, which this model has.
What would I lose/gain with the 7.62 vs. the 5.56?
Would an older Colt in 7.62 be a good investment at that price?
I’ve known this gunshop owner for a long time, he shoots strait with me. He did comment that the only problem he was aware of with this model of Colt in 7.62 was getting larger capacity magazines to feed properly. He said 10 rounders and maybe 20’s should function properly, but 30’s might be a problem.
Do they use proprietary mags or do they use normal AK mags?
Rumor has it that 7.62x39mm mags for the AR are due soon from CProducts. If that happens and they are reliable I can see 7.62x39mm ARs gaining in popularity.
