Colt M4 Stock Options?

I was looking at the Magpul CTR Stock for my M4, had one on my SIG556 and really loved it.

But I feel that I might be looking a bit short of the full picture on the stock options for my trusty steed.

What are some of my options, looking at good, solid, proven quality and reliability.

I would be open price if it’s worth it.

Some of the others I can name off the top of my head are the SOPMOD stock and the Veltor stock.

for a basic carbine, i’ve used the CTR, VLTOR modstock, and LMT SOPMOD

CTR

  • tight lock up with friction lock
  • integrated sling swivel
  • optional screw on butt plate
  • price
  • no storage
  • no noticeable enhancement to cheekweld

VLTOR modstock

  • above average fit, snug
  • integrated sling swivel
  • customizable battery storage
  • better cheekweld
  • optional slip on butt pad
  • price
  • storage tubes can pinch or pull facial hair
  • slip on butt pad should be zip tied to keep it secure

SOPMOD

  • tight fit
  • battery storage
  • awesome cheekweld
  • very comfortable
  • removable butt pad
  • EXPENSIVE
  • seems heavier than the others

I run a CTR on my carbine and like it very much. Locks up solid and no rattle sounds. If I had the cash, I may think about the Magpul UBR stock; folks seem to like them.

You can’t go wrong with a CTR + Rubber butt pad. I have a UBR waiting at home for me in a box…one Colt has a CTR, the other is getting the UBR.
I have a Vltor Club-foot, also top quality piece of gear. The Rubber pad does need zip ties or 550 cord to stay on- and that sucks. I have facial hair all the time now- and it’s never been caught in the teeth. I think that happened to 1 or 2 people and became an internet legend over night. You can always put a piece of tape over it.
I have 2 SOPMOD stocks coming on LMT lowers but only because I got a great deal on them. If I dislike them, then get sold.
Battery storage IMHO, is not needed. Why would you make your weapon heavier when you can throw batteries in your pack.
Best thing to do is go to a range with people who have the stuff and try it before you buy it…unless you have extra $$.

I had the VLTOR and swapped it out for the Magpul.UBR and have no regrets. This one is solid with no jiggles/rattles/wiggles. It comes with two (2) upper cheek welds(?). Besides, I prefer it without the trap doors. Of course, Your Methods May Vary accordingly so.

Hope you find what you’re looking for and Enjoy!

I went with one of these for my LMT build:

Mine arrived filthy and covered in scratched paint, but completely functional. I disassembled it, gave it a detail cleaning, sanded off the old paint, and repainted it in dark earth. Looks awesome now, is solid, has some “character” given its history, and it’s a genuine Colt!

For $22, it’s a great value.

My first stock on my M4 was a Vltor. Then I went with the LMT/SopMod and now I have a CTR on it and never looked back.

After trying them all out, the SOPMOD is the only one that I run.

I love my CTR

I’m kind of partial to the plane Jane, factory Colt carbine stock that came on your 6920… But that’s just me…
