So I just picked up a Colt LE6920 in a trade and when I got it home I noticed something on the lower that I haven’t seen on another one before and I was hoping that someone could tell me why it’s there and it is is normal? It’s hard to describe so ill just show a pic of it.
Looks like a tool mark…wouldn’t worry about it really, unless you want your rifles to look perfect in their safe.
It doesn’t bother me really. I just haven’t seen it like that before so I was curious if it was normal to have these marks or if it was just this one.

I agree they’re tooling marks. My colt, however, does not have them.
Won’t affect the gun, but I bet Colt didn’t mean to send that out.
I kinda figured that this may have just slipped past the final inspection or something.
I don’t think it’s a matter of slipping through the cracks. Yes, it should look smooth and nice but I would assume that your lower receiver passed the mil-spec dimensions in that area of the lugs and was deemed good to go from a QC inspector. Cosmetically not the best, structurally, “Bring it on Baby”, load me up and pull the trigger!
Yea you are probably right.
2 ways I’d look at it. A. It adds character to the rifle already, and it makes this rifle yours. B. Write or call Colt and get it changed out. I agree a tool mark, I wouldn’t worry about it but on the other hand I like to scratch and ding my own tools, I’d be jealous that someone or something got to do it first even in production.

Send it back, get a new one…for free. If it bothers you that is.
I think it looks cool. Gives it character.
I probably won’t be sending it back but would they even be able to send me a new one since this rifle isn’t any longer produced?
Yep, looks like a tool mark and my Colt doesn’t have it either.
Now what my Colt does have is a terrible park job, but again I like a tool with character. Somebody on the board has a sig that says “Colt makes War Horses not Show Ponies”… So true with mine :laugh:

As far as ops lower. Tool markings. It’s not a big deal but you expect your colt to have a better finish than that. My 6920 lower doesn’t look near as good as my bcm4 but its like serial number 13xxxx compared to 43xx.
Bonez - my older 6920 has the same exact tool marks…not a big deal. If your upper to lower fit is as nice and snug as mine, I would forget about trying to get your lower replaced…a new lower isn’t guaranteed to fit exactly the same.
By any chance is yours a large pin (.170") too? Mine also came with a Diemaco marked upper. Judging by the squared-off front upper lug in your pic, it looks like yours might be a Diemaco as well. My upper also has a proof mark in the shape of a backwards check mark stamped in the upper right corner right by the gas tube area. I’ve attached a pic. Does your upper look anything like mine?
