If anyone owns one of these could you Please tell me a couple of measurements.

There are 18 slots on the bottom rail. The length of the railed part of the bottom is 7 15/16 inches.

The top rail is 17.25 inches from the end of the upper receiver to the end of the rail.
There are 39 slots on the top rail. The railed length is 16 3/8 inches.

Thanks’ a lot how do you like it, Any jamming issuse’s

Is the receiver and rail all one piece, Another words if you wanted a longer rail does this mean you cant add a rail only but would have to replace rail and receiver as one piece.

I’ve had mine for about a year. 500 rounds through it. Flawless.

Keeping the varmint hunter in mind, thQUOTE=jon308;1832658]Is the receiver and rail all one piece, Another words if you wanted a longer rail does this mean you cant add a rail only but would have to replace rail and receiver as one piece.[/QUOTE]

I have had mine over a year. Haven’t used it much, maybe 50 rounds through it. No problems at all with it.

The rail and receiver are one solid piece. You can remove the bottom rail to get to the barrel. It looks similar to the setup, but larger.

I’m wondering why only 4 groves in the 1-12 RH twist ? Barrel wear a little faster ??? When many others are running 6 groves.

6 grooves has been a standard for AR15 barrels… it isn’t necessarily a standard for anything else. 4 grooves is pretty common, especially in .30 caliber chamberings. The number of grooves is debated by benchrest type shooters but within reasonable limits (at least 3 and not more than 6) probably doesn’t matter much. I’ve seen a seemingly good argument for 3-groove barrels in terms of tolerating more throat erosion before it affects accuracy, but I can’t comment from personal experience.

So “ideally”,what would be a good bullet weight (heavy or lighter) for 4 groves and FPS range to start with in that 16" barrel ?

With the 1:12 twist I would suggest anything up to the common 175gr BTHP bullets should work fine (also the 180gr SP hunting bullets). If you’re trying to ring the utmost accuracy out of it (you are handloading, sorting cases by volume, sorting bullets by length, etc.) I suspect 168 would be preferable. Best way to find out is by trying a couple of options and seeing what groups you get in your rifle.

The number of grooves is not very relevant to the bullet weight you can use, btw.

Thanks. and yes,I can be/got very anal about reloading over the years. I’ve done the weigh the bullets, sorting cases, trickle load powder to the grain in my 9’s,45’s and 5.56 reload rounds. I’m about to start reloading 308 and am looking for a starting point (I know every "same cal"weapon can also have different “taste” for powder and bullet weight). Then “they” throw in different twist rates and grooves… I keep running into the 168gr BTFMJ and BTHP bullets like they are calling my name and figured it’d be a good starting point. But like you said,I need to find out what the weapon likes. Trouble is,I’ll end up with more than one  and end up reloadong (again) for different weapons. All part of the fun. Being retired ain’t easy…:stuck_out_tongue: Figured I’d move my old hobby into the MSR AR’s in 308.

Would be hard to go wrong, starting with, say, a 168 Amax or 168smk at 2.80" over some Varget/RL15/H4895/4064.

I’ve always had real good luck with 4895. I liked the way it filled the 5.56 case and liked the even burn. I also need to update my reloading library.

Colt LE 6940 now has a big brother. Picked up my Colt LE901-16S yesterday. :sarcastic: Love it.

Awesome man. Let me know when you shoot it and what you think!

Almost picked one up not too long ago but was hesitant.

Love it and would do it again in a heartbeat. I liked the compatibility with the LE6940 and being able to use other “Mil-Spec” uppers if needed. Also Free Floated barrel and came with BUIS (like the 6940). Also uses the same PMags Magpul mags like my other 308- 7.62X51 MSR’s. Just need time to get it broke in and see what it likes (or doesn’t like) to eat.

If anyone is interested in the Colt 901 this is the best pricing I’ve seen so far. Hope this helps anyone whose on the fence about getting one.

So far so good. I’ve had zero issues with it and it hasn’t been ammo picky durring break-in.
