I have a Winchester model 70 XTR (1976) with a 3x9 Bushnell 3200 Elite; Thompson Center Pro Hunter SS 50cal Muzzle loader and a 243 barrel for it as well.
My question is, would these guns a have be enough to trade for a Colt LE6920 in a Gun Store? Or would I actually need to pay more money on top of these guns to make this trade happen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. My local Gun Store has a Colt in stock and I would like to go into this deal knowing what to expect (in general).
This all depends on what the gun shop thinks they are worth, if they are honest about the value, and if they will even accept a trade at all. Lots of variables at work here.
See what the gun shop will offer you as a trade credit, but you’re probably a lot better off selling them on the open market (gun auction site, equipment exchange, or classifieds) and then using the funds to buy your 6920.
Gun shops will almost always give you a lot less. My father in law just recently picked up a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 7mm-08 with a Nikon 3-9x40. It was easily in 90% condition. It belonged to a friend-of-a-friend who passed away. The survivors brought the rifle to a shop who offered the… hold your breath $265 for the rifle and scope.
That’s just crazy! I had one shop offer me 1100 for the combination without the muzzleloader barrel. But they are located in NY and can’t get the LE6920 to sell out of there store.
The Gun store that has the LE6920 in stock is selling it for $1395.00. I’m not sure but this seems a little more than what I thought they are selling for now; I could be completely wrong.
Cash is King… I would sell off what you are willing to part with and raise around $1,200… With that you should be able to find a 6920 and pay the shiping and any transfer fees…
I called the place today and ask them about the trade; i’m going down friday to see if they’ll take an even swap trade, if not i’m selling buying with the King!

Hey I just called around to some local shops in my area and they are quoting my anywhere from 1369 to 1600 dollars for a new LE6920; this is just crazy! I’m hoping to wheel a deal with an acquaintance of mine. I’m itching for this gun and i’m starting bleed
Well all, I tried to make the deal on the Colt LE6920 but it just wasn’t going to happen. Instead I made the deal on the S&W M&P15; it wasn’t my top choice but I think I’ll be happy with it. I’ll need to make some upgrades to the weapon.
The upgrades I’d do is an auto carrier, a heavy buffer and double heat shield handguards. These are the parts I’ve ordered for the S&W MP15 I’m getting out of layaway next week.
Ask yourself what you got the AR for in the first place. This will help you pick an optic. Will a red dot (aimpoint or eotech) fit the bill or do you plan to scope it.
Read the manual, clean it, lube it and shoot it.
Sight it in. Get 250-500 rnds thru it and then report back on any failures.
Some upgrades only serve to remove $$$ from your pocket.
For starters you will need an AR cleaning kit; the basic GI kit will work fine and a couple extra mags never hurt.
Make sure your end plate and gas key are staked correctly. Then go buy a dozen good magazines (Magpul PMAGs, Tangodown ARCs, or BCM/C-Products mags with Magpul anti-tilt followers), a good sling, a ton of ammo, and go shoot the heck out of it.
Over time, as you get more familiar with the weapon, I’d swap out the semi-auto BCG, buffer spring, and carbine buffer for an M-16 BCG, CS buffer spring, and H-buffer. Then you can move on to your choice of handguards, grip, sling plates, and stock.
