I have an older Colt AR-15A2 H-Bar Sporter. The lower receiver is stamped .223, however, the barrel in front of the FSB is stamped, 5.56 NATO/1:7 Twist. Is this rifle chambered .223 or 5.56? Thanks.

I’ve had this rifle a long time but never shot it much. Couldn’t remember from years ago if I had fed it .223 or 5.56. Then the receiver confused me a bit when I got it out a couple of weeks ago and all I had was 5.56. Thanks again for the great info.
Just in case you aren’t aware the 5.56 chamber can handle 223 as well, you just don’t want to shhot 5.56 in a chamber cut for 223.
