The gas key on my brand new out of the box Colt M4 has the rear screw sticking up out of the gas key and both screws have been staked. Has anyone else seen this issue? In this climate should I be sending parts back to Colt, or even my entire rifle which I’ve heard from others that their QC department may require.

Double check to make sure that aint a Spikes/Bushmaster/DPMS/CMMG/Panther/S&W/ ect.ect.

I’m in the process of contacting Colt now. Probably the worst possible timing to try and get a replacement part from the factory I know. Sh*t happens and I understand that, anyone can make a mistake. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, the rear screw seems to be cross threaded into the carrier which makes me wonder if hole in the carrier was tapped incorrectly or if the screw was just partially threaded and the cant is because of the staking. If it’s just the gas key no big deal, I’ll pull the screw out clean up the key and locktite it or field stake it, but if the carrier is out of spec I want a new BCG.
How the frig did that make it past QC? :eek:

I’d fix that myself. I’d be reluctant to let any bolt carrier group out of my sight in this climate. :no:
Yea I would fix it myself. Simple fix.
Every company has some mistakes. No company is perfect. With Colt, it far less common than say DPMS or Oly Arms. COlt will probably send you a replacement right away with a return authorization for you to send the defective part in when the good one arrives (so you will never have a lack of a BCG).
One question, though, did this come from a gunbroker auction claiming it was a new Colt or from a reputable Colt dealer?
CONTACT COLT. THEN DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO FIX IT YOURSELF OR SEND IT IN.
