Colt Block......

I think people are getting a little confused here.

What X has is a post ban Match Target that started as a H-Bar that I put a Colt M16A2 barrel the day that the AWB died.

It’s not a SP-1.

Colt put those steel blocks in the receiver and those bolt carriers after 1994.

This particular rifle was one that had the small screw front pin that was converted to a standard push pin.

Yes, you are absolutely right…I knew I was saying something wrong even as I was typing but I just could not correct myself…must be old age creeping in on me…I meant firing pin all along…silly me.

That rifle will be a keeper…and to think I almost sold it…

Umm, gonna have to disagree with you there. I have a Sporter Match HBAR (MH series) that was purchased new in '91 that has the lower receiver block installed. Also has the 2-piece front pivot pin, large pin FCG and slab-sided lower.

As to the original “cutaway” type carrier - mine is original and has held up over 10k+ rounds. Never been a problem with a bent firing pin.

Colt Blue label guns (the Sporter series) also had these same features, and these are pre-1994. These came with pinned in steel autosear blocks and the half circle carriers. The sear blocks were pinned in two different ways. Early guns with sear blocks had them blind pinned on only one side, while later guns with sear blocks had them blind pinned on both sides.

I have a pre-94 Blue Label model 6551 marked “Sporter Target” that has full A2 reinforcements, is drilled for the front takedown pin retaining spring/detent, and has the front takedown pin weep hole drilled. It came with a milspec diameter two-screw front retaining pin, which I replaced with a standard milspec takedown push pin. I bought this days after the Clinton 1994 ban.

I stand corrected…

Yes, i used to have one of those “Sporter Target” as well…and stupidly sold it…but I do remember the sear block was there and it was different from the one I currently have…for some reason I thought the hole where the pin is, is smaller than the huge hole on my current rifle, but I have no pics of that so I cannot verify thisright now. It did have the FH but no bayonet lug

My blue label Sporter Target has the single blind pin fixing the sear block with the smaller diameter pin. I believe it was right after the 1994 ban that Colt started using the two blind pin method of fixing the sear block, and I think at one point they used blind pins of differing diameters (ie one was the smaller variety and one the larger size) and also used larger diameter blind pins of the same diameter on either side as can be seen on your lower.
