Prepare for the verbal lashing that’s on it’s way.:sarcastic:
You aren’t going to find too many Spike’s fans around here.
Out of the other three choices I can voice my opinion only on the Colt as it’s the only one I’ve had experience on. That experience has been very good. Several thousand rounds with one malfunction(ammo related). The 6920 is very accurate for me I am not much of a bench shooter but have kept all of my shots in paper plates at 50/100/200 yards offhand (thanks to Grant’s training) using the factory irons. The Colt is great if you want a basic carbine that can pretty much do it all.
Others can chime in on BCM/DD.
Good luck,
Josh
I’m a Tribe fan, and a Spikes lower fan. :shout:
But, I also have a full Colt and a full BCM.
Out of the 4 companies you’ve listed, only one of their CEO’s runs around the internet creating drama and getting emotional. Spikes does build a fine AR at a great price. Their Customer Service is top notch and their employees are friendly. But Tom annoys the hell out of me. I stay away for that reason alone. But again, the actual product is on the same level as the rest.
As far as the others go…if you want a different barrel profile, a midlength gas system, a hammer forged barrel, or different factory rail / furniture options, go with DD (I have no idea what a V7 is) or BCM.
If you want a simple carbine, or you want to add a rail / accessories yourself, go with the Colt. All the options are high quality, but Colt is the standard by which all others are judged. If you want lightweight also take a look at the 6720.
There is no “better” in this scenario. Only “right” for what you want.
become so metro-sexual that they have lost the ability to make an informed decision of their own accord. Posts of this nature really give me pause that we are breeding into a lowest common denominator scenario.
Just fucking pick one for Christ’s sake and run it like you hate it.
The only definitive answer is going to come from you. There have been posts on all of these manufacturers at one time or another. If you “know” you can’t go wrong with any one of the above, then pick the one that has the most of what you need in its base features and requires the least in additional upgrade.
For your budget, I would be looking at the Colt, DD, and BCM which I feel are more proven rifles than the spikes. Although the Spikes is a good rifle, IMO I think Spikes niche is more in the $800 range where your basic spikes is a very strong buy.
Going back to the Colt, DD, and BCM my thoughts are that if DD carbines are in the exact configuration that you are looking for, I would go with the DD because no one else can match their pricing for the features and rail system that a DD V1-7 offers.
If you are looking to highly customize your rifle or looking for a unique configuration, I would go with the BCM because no one else has such a wide selection of uppers receiver group options.
If you are looking a relatively standard style carbine (16" M4 profile carbine or 16" LW profile with 6720) and are more concerned with resale value I would buy the Colt because Colt is still considered the gold standard among AR15 platform rifles/carbines.
In terms of overall quality, I think Colt, BCM, and DD are extremely close and I don’t think one brand has any real advantages over the others.
We all have our preferences. Decide what will work for you. Sometimes you don’t know until you try them out. I would suggest something basic. I would go with the BCM route either of these:

once again thanks to the guys who actualy gave helpful input.
Get the Colt if you can.
Colt, BCM, and DD are excellent choices. If you want cool colored in rollmarks with ghey spiders then you know your options.
These “which one should I get” or “this vs that” threads are a dime a dozen asking the exact same question. Use the search as the info is out there. Also using correct sentence structure and punctuation will lend some credibility to your question and not sound/look like it was typed by a second grader.
This one is done.
