Has anyone done any trigger work to their’s?
The different shaped hammer has me wondering if it can be replaced.
I was thinking about getting the “Bull Moose Tactical” speed hammer, skeletonized trigger & springs for some PCC action.
If the hammer can’t be replaced, can I just replace the trigger & springs?

Should be gtg with any AR trigger in that case.
Any GI type triggers should be fine.
For anything more exotic you need to make sure the manufacturer green lights use on a 9mm. The blowback 9mm AR is known to be hard on the hammer and pins.
The shape and length of the ramp on the bottom of the bolt carrier is said to be relevant. I’ve heard that Colts are not as well ramped as newer players in the blowback 9mm AR game. Take that with a grain of salt because I have no way to confirm it.
I’ve successfully used many 556 AR triggers in my (not Colt) 9mm ARs, usually for several thousand rounds each.
I’ve been trying to read up on it but there is not much out there.
All I can find is how the hammer is shaped that way to work with the bolt.
But even that has changed from the original to the current models.
Looks like I’ll just play it safe an just do the trigger & springs.
I tried to use a Brownells Rapid Fire Trigger (made by Geissele) in my 9MM SBR which has a Colt 11.5" 9MM complete upper / bolt with a Colt Pattern lower. It didn’t work - I forget exactly what the issue was but I think it wouldn’t reset the trigger after dry firing, so I went back to the one that came with it (GI type milspec FCG)
Unfortunately with all the oddity variants of the 9MM AR, it’s a lot of trial and error. I tried once and said not worth the hassle for a range toy that gets out once or twice a year.
I totally understand that.
That’s why I was asking on here to see if anyone had done any mods to one successfully.
I think that I will leave the stock hammin place and just replace the trigger & springs.
I can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would need or want anything beyond a stock trigger on a Colt 9mm carbine. It already has one of the best triggers of any 9mm SMG/PCC platform and you aren’t gonna be reaching out to 200 yards with it.
The only real world flaw of the Colt 9mm SMG and semi copies is using Uzi type mags which sorta suck when combined with a modified AR-15 mag well and the magazine itself has a tendency to spill if dropped. My only other small gripe would be I’d have preferred if they went to A2 sights but with flat tops that not really an issue any more.
I grew up on M10s, Uzis and MP5s, the Colt trigger is a dream compared to the rest. Just learn how to shoot the rifle you have and you’ll be fine.
I completely disagree with you. You can’t for the life of you understand why someone would want a better trigger??? Shooting in matches and faster more accurate shooting is 2 off the top. I run a LaRue MBT in my colts. Amazing.
I have no problem with mags splitting. Don’t use cheap mags and you won’t have that issue.
Spilling, not splitting. Talking about factory mags, drop them on the ground and they spill rounds. It’s an old magazine design.
As for triggers, if you can’t shoot the stock Colt trigger accurately then you need more range time not a better trigger.
There are a lot of people who would disagree with you that are match and 3 gun shooters. Better triggers make make you a little faster in more accurate. That’s just s fact. The mags are fine. I get you don’t like good triggers or the colt uzi mags but that’s just you. That’s ok though. You said you couldn’t for the life of you understand why. I explained to you why people do. Now you understand.
I can understand a trigger swap for a gaming PCC/SMG.
I run a gieselle full auto trigger on my FA 6991
I’m with SteyrAUG; leave it stock. Others have reported problems with aftermarket fire control parts. Blowback design imposes more force. There’s a reason the trigger pin is stainless on the 6951. Mine is box-stock.
LaRue MBT works good in the 6951/6991
I replaced the triggers on several of my AR’s (with Geissele’s, because I could) but I haven’t messed with the triggers in my 6450 & 6951. None of them are that bad anyway (but I grew up in an era where you adjust to the weapon instead of the other way around).
I grew up in both eras. I learned to adapt to new technology and advancements. With your mentality then we wouldn’t have Red Dots optics or BUIS. Evolve or fall behind.
I hope that $30 trigger is better than the price suggest. Maybe consider going with a Larue or Centurion if your on a budget. It is $30 correct, did I read that correct?
