Colt AR-15 Sporter Lightwieght 7.62 x 39

Colt AR-15 Sporter Lightwieght 7.62 x 39

I have a seller who is selling this rifle along with 4 10 round Colt Mags. I like to hear feed back from the community regaurding this gun at this caliber. the rifle is the R6830 model - 1993 pre-ban. the gun is not in its original packaging or box, but has never been shot, as well as in great condition. How much is this gun worth, and is it favored in any way. I know about the large mag problems but that is no issue, 4 10 round Colt mags is enough for me. PLease feel free to input, im really interested at the prices these guns sell for. Thanks

There is one sitting in my local gunshop right now. It has been fired but is in great shape. He is asking $1050 firm.

I know where there is one in a well known local gun store and the price on the tag is about $2100.00. I tried to tell the owner that he is smoking crack, but he insist that Colt is going out of business and it is worth that much.

Not really my cup of tea, but I think it has tremendous value as a training gun. Same manual of arms, but you can shoot the cheap com-bloc ammo. 7.62x39 is about as affordable as anything can be these days.

What do you mean by large mag problems?

High capacity magazines (>10 rounds) have been lacking for 7.62x39mm ARs. USA did make what are commonly called frankenmags which do work - from what I’ve gathered they were just about the only USA product that functioned well. They were basically an AR mag top grafted to an AK mag body. They are out of production now, so acquiring them requires a little hunting.

C Products is supposed to be unveiling their new 30 rounders for 7.62x39 ARs at SHOT.

ETA - The last Colt 7.62 upper I saw for sale was used but in good shape, with an asking price of $750. At present Del-Ton, DPMS, Model 1 Sales and Olympic offer 7.62x39 uppers, and I’ve heard that DoubleStar does as well, but there’s nothing on their website. Nobody makes a chrome lined barrel that I’ve seen. MGI makes a bolt/firing pin combo that is optimized for the hard primed eastern european steel case ammo that some have reported having difficulty getting to fire.

EATA - Apparently ArmaLite is stepping into the 7.62x39 AR fray as well (SHOT), but I don’t know much about that yet.
