Convoluted quandry, but here goes:
I have a Colt HBAR with the half-circle bolt carrier and plastic buffer and a Wilson Combat UT-15 (banb) with the fixed stock. I want to replace the HBAR 1/2 circle with M16 carrier and aluminum buffer. I want to go with a collapsible stock for the Wilson.
-
Rather than buying a rifle buffer, could I just swap the aluminum buffer from the wilson into the colt and then just buy a collapsible stock for the Wilson (w/carbine buffer and spring), thereby avoiding the cost of 1 buffer?
-
Any recommendations for a source for a new factory Colt carrier (with key) so I can retain existing bolt?
-
Recommendations for collapsible stock for Wilson?
As always, appreciate the advice.
Why are you changing the HBar? Is there a problem?
no sir, carbine and full size buffer tubes arent interchangable from what i have seen. the carbine is shorter than the full size rifle buffer.
If both of the rifles have full-sized, fixed stocks then you should be able to swap them out.
Here’s a link with Colt parts: http://www.specializedarmament.com/
Colt LE 6920 and nfranco, thanks much for the info. Appreciate it.
I want to replace the HBAR 1/2 circle with M16 carrier…
Does it have the Colt sear block? The auto bolt carrier won’t fit if it does. (AMHIK)
Shootist,
It has the Colt Defense solid web (not raised sear block). I’m told this should permit the M16 carrier. Sound correct to you?
brushy bill,
Sounds like you are fine. My two (early 1990s) Colt lowers both have the block - they stick up high enough (well above the side of the lower) to catch on the bottom of a standard (auto) carrier.
Just a web sear block you can use any carrier. If its the other type of block which is a pinned in place piece of metal you are stuck with what you have.
Rifle buffers are not interchangeable with carbine buffers. Are the both A2 type stocks? Rather than swapping parts around just get a replacement for whatever you are wanting to replace.
Belmont 31R,
They are both full size rifle stocks. I was just trying to save the cost of a single buffer. The plastic in the Colt seems junky and since I wanted to put a collapsible in the Wilson anyway, figured I could salvage the aluminum buffer and put it in the Colt rather than throwing it away.
