I noted Colt has 7.62 AR offerings such as the The CM901 which seems a big brother to the 6940 being a monolithic upper. As Colt a generally well regarded AR and well made reliable 7.62 ARs for a reasonable price not common, how does the Colt 7.62 offerings compare for the $$? Anyone have range time with them? I didn’t see a non monolithic 7.62 offering on their site, but may have simply missed it. Is the monolithic aspect the major reason this gun does not come up as an option for a 7.62 based AR or other reasons, such as $$ compared to another brand?
I’ve had a 901 since shortly after they came out, but have limited rounds through it. I’m fairly happy with it - I like the features and the quality seems to be typical Colt. It’s a bit heavy for what it is, and there is no aftermarket support that I know of. The LMT MWS is probably the most direct comparison in features and quality.
There are some newer variations of the 901 that are not monolithic and cost less. I think there is an older thread here if you do a search.

I had a 901. I sold it for an LMT MWS (slick).
I actually liked it quite a bit. quality was good, it was reliable, and very accurate. The colt actually had a much softer recoil impulse to me vs the LMT. I got rid of the Colt for the LMT because at the time Colt did sell spare parts especially the BCG and I did care for the short rail or folding front sight. Plus I had always wanted an LMT. Colt has since made spare parts available I see.
I would disagree the Colt is the same quality as the LMT. Not that the Colt was bad but the LMT is a higher quality gun in my opinion. But it’s also quite a bit more expensive. End of the day either is a good .308 option but my LMT is one I’m my favorite ARs. YMMV.

The interesting thing about the 901 that went under the radar is that it is really the 1959 Colt AR10A dusted off, at least in general concept. Notice that the BCG and receivers are shorter, so that the profile is very similar to an AR15.
They recently introduced a follow-up line of 901’s called the MARC 901 series, to include non monolithic, more affordable options, with free-float tube handguards, namely the Colt AR901-16S.
