Colt 6940 Who has ACTUALLY had the barrel out?

I am looking to find out once and for all if the barrel extension on the 6940 is the proprietary part or is it the barrel nut?

This being the interenets I have read it both ways. A call to Colt today yielded NO answers and they actually referred me to Clyde Armory who had not idea either.

So what I am looking for is some one who has had the barrel out of the Monolithic upper of the 6940 to post. Pictures would be OUTSTANDING ! ! !

Contact Specialized Armament. Ken or Mark will tell you. I remember them showing me, but I can’t remember if it was just the nut or if it was the nut and the extension.

In any case it is different.

Both the barrel nut and barrel ext. are proprietary…

IF YOU OWN THE INFO, POST IT (not links to other forums).

OK, That settles it! Both the Nut and Barrel Extension are significantly different from a regular AR. The Nut I expected but I was curious about the barrel. It would appear that Specialized Armament does custom installation of these. I fired off an email to them and will post the answer here.

Very interesting did colt do this as an upgrade or what?

I don’t think this was a specific upgrade but I am betting that they thought this was the best way to fit the nut into the confines of the Monolithic upper, but that is PURE speculation on my part. From the pictures there does not appear to be enough room above the extension for a slot to accept the standard indexing pin. Again just a guess.

Thing is I like this Monolithic upper bettter than ANYTHING else that has come along and I have owned 2 MRP uppers.

Interesting barrel profile, better than M4 profile, but I wonder if that diameter behind the gas block is really necessary?

The 6940 barrel is identical to the 6920.

very interesting thanks

I reviewed the rules looking for the rule that prohibits links to other forums and the closest I could find is:

  1. Information, Links, and Images, – Please do not post information on illegal modifications to firearms, threats against individuals or government entities images, or links to pornography. Do not post someone else’s personal contact information (including home phone numbers, addresses, and unpublished email addresses). Do not post topics that disrupt the overall workings of M4Carbine.net.

which bans links to very specific kinds of information.

Can you refer us to the rule prohibiting links to other forums?

Can you give us some specific reasons?

They can’t or won’t… Notice that the “STAFF” login was used. What does that tell you?

Grant and his crew certainly have the right to run the forum anyway they see fit. I find it odd that they got upset over a cross post to another forum that has historically been VERY kind to this one.
